Sushi I had: - Japanese Kitchen roll: It was like a rainbow roll but all the fish were on the inside, in addition to the classic California roll fillings of crab salad, avocado, and cucumber. And then masago on top. It was way too big of a roll; you could *not* pick it up with chopsticks and you could not put one piece into your mouth. You had to cut each sushi piece in half and use a fork. It was very messy the whole thing was falling apart. I would not recommend it. - Tiger roll: It was a California roll on the inside, (imitation crab mix, avocado, and cucumber), and on top, half had salmon and half had shrimp. it was good I would recommend it. - I learned that masago has gluten in it. And so does imitation crab mix. And then of course regular soy sauce. But they do have gluten-free soy sauce. And they don't mark gluten containing items (and a couple other top allergens, like soy and raw fish) on their menu. - I got green tea, it was good, had some floating leaf pieces in it though, comes in a small cup, but you get free refills. But you have to ask for them. - Edamame was good. Pretty typical. Their menu said the edamame had gluten in it, but I can't see what was gluttonous about it. It only had salt on top, and did not come with any sauces. - Overall, it was hard to find sushi on their menu that I wanted to order. The vast majority are either spicy or have a deep fried things in them (so, high gluten and high fat). Very limited options otherwise. And the non-spicy, non-gluten sushis are all very mainstream and boring. Not my favorite sushi place. Samurai Sushi is still my favorite.

I just had a great lunch at the JAPANESE KITCHEN. It’s always truly great food and great entertainment watching the cooks. Do their thing as they cook the meal. I’ve been going there for a whole lotta years way back to when it was in Winrock, which was probably 30 years or more and the food has always stayed at a high-quality level it’s always been a good place to get a really tender fillet because they have a great meat supplier and it’s always very tender

7/26/25- Japanese kitchen has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants for a long time. The food is fresh and delicious. I have never had a bad meal here. The staff is friendly attentive, and professional. There is plenty of parking in the stack parking structure nearby. The restaurant is clean with a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. No complaints at this visit!

This is our go to place for our special occasions. Always busy but what do you expect for an amazing restaurant. The hosts are sweet, servers are great, and the cooks are amazing and the food is yummy! The customers on the other hand, ugh! If you eat here, be patient as they’re very busy and doing the best they can. Expect to be seated based on your party size. They can only seat 7-9 per table. They don’t need to be yelled at. They’re human and don’t deserve to be treated like crap.

Sitting around a grill where the food is being prepared in a professional and friendly manner is always a pleasant experience. It also helps that the food is delicious. There are a lot of protein options on the menu, which makes it easy to forget about the sides that come with it. The fried rice and vegetables, the salad, and the soup are all tasty and well prepped. Prices are still somewhat reasonable, especially when the entire experience is taken into account.
