Had such a good experience tonight! It was my first time and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try it. If you need a sign this is it, it was phenomenal. Sushi chefs were amazing and service overall!
Koji is a delightful establishment in Omaha. You might raise your eyebrows in finding fresh fish and Japanese tapas without an ocean nearby but Koji makes the magic happen. Koji is absolutely legit and you should try it out whether you're a fan or not of yakitoris or sushi. Koji is not your traditional Japanese izakaya. They are quite progressive in their creations, especially where they have the freedom to experiment (ie. appetizer section and rolls). Some are great. But also some concotions may confuse your palate. I love the fact that they are experimenting but the fact that it has made it to the menu means someone has made the decision to ship it. I actually think Koji might massively benefit from swinging the pendulum a bit more towards mainstream or traditional recipes. Now the area where they do stay more traditional is their yakitoris or grilled meat skewers. And they are definitely some of the highlights. Now some may come with progressive sauces but thank god they put it on the side so you can skip it. The yakitoris at Koji really are legit and tasty. I highly recommend just going to Kojis for beer and yakitori itself is worth multiple times over. Finally, let's talk about the sushi. The technique of the sushi itself isn't the best of the best. Don't get me wrong - the sushis are quite good. But compared to some of the nation's best in California or NYC, it's definitely a step or two below. The fish used is quite fresh but again, not as fresh as you would experience at the coast. Again, I can't ding them for this given the location. But also I want to be fair and objective. Koji's is absolutely a must-visit location in Omaha. Whether you like sushis or yakitoris, it is worth the visit and every cent of your money. My only hope is that they tune down the progressiveness a bit over time. The effort is there. The attention to detail is there. It just needs a bit of tweaking.
We were in Omaha today visiting the zoo and had a hankering for sushi. We found this cozy spot and were deeply impressed. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and prompt with her service. The menu was great and the food was even better! If you have an appetite for sushi, I highly recommend giving these folks your business.
Absolutely beautiful sushi restaurant. Smaller, but delicious menu with unique flavor combinations. A few gluten free options, but no substitutions on the menu made it a bit challenging to expand the GF optionality. The KFC buns were a favorite as were the wings! Sushi was delicious! The service was stellar, very attentive!
Coming from a perspective of a vegetarian, not many impressive vegetarian options to choose from - so this place would not likely be my first go to. My fellow table mates did seem to enjoy the food they got - for the very small portions they were. I did enjoy the vibe of this place. Very aesthetic! Perhaps a good place to try when you want an experience~ (but not necessarily plentiful food 😅).
