This is a nice swim school with very friendly and experienced coaches. Few of the great things about this place is covered pool and heated area. These things is take easy any concern about the cold and make kids comfortable in pool.
BEST swim school in the bay area! The staff treat you like family. You will not meet a kinder group of people who genuinely love what they do. The facility is clean, welcoming, and clearly designed with little ones in mind.
My kid has been attending private lessons at Maki Swim School for the 3rd year now. We started with 15-min lesson when kiddo was 3 yr old and upgraded to 30-min lesson when the kiddo turned 4 yr old. There has been a noticeable progress in his swimming skills. Thanks to all the amazing coaches. It can be crowded at times, but no complains given the competitive prices provided by Maki Swim School. Thanks a lot.
PROS: My toddler started Big Fish swim classes back in June and grew in her confidence in the water. Now that she's three, she's a bit older than the average age of the other kids in the class and I think, for some of the movements they teach in the class. However, it was great for her as she was not a fan of putting her face underwater prior to the classes and now she is able to do it and blow bubbles. Our instructor, Chas, is great with her songs and she's really good at explaining why we do certain movements and what the objectives may be. They have a small section of the pool to allow kids to continue to swim and play before/after class. CONS: It is an outdoor pool that is bordered by thick clear vinyl. It can get very hot and humid with little airflow. My first visit I was hit with the smell of humid chlorine. It was a bit much for me. The condition of the bathrooms leave much to be desired. Mildew, wear and tear - personally, I try to let as little of my things touch surfaces. Most importantly though, is the temperature of the showers. It is way too hot, even when I leave it on the coldest setting without losing water pressure, and my toddler constantly complains. Last week, I saw a mother with a bucket grab cold water from the sink to wash her son. I wish there were other group classes besides Big Fish. The other offerings are private or semi-private lessons.
My daughter took 15 classes at this school and she’s achieved a lot. Great thanks to our teachers Matthew and Corinna!! They were amazing coaches 👌🏻🤩🙌🏻🫶🏻 Three starts is for the correspondence that I have been experiencing with Maki school. We referred our cousin to the school, and she took bunch of lessons with them but when I asked for the free referral lesson for my daughter mentioned on their website they didn’t schedule it, but they said they did. When we came to get our last referral lesson, my daughter wasn’t on schedule that day. And when I emailed them regarding this situation they said that “fortunately we don't have a lot of students requesting extra lessons on different days with different teachers because it does get very confusing.” It’s just really frustrating! But overall experience is very good. I would still recommend this school.
