January 16, 2026 visit with 10 friends. Red Koi is without a doubt, my favorite sushi and hibachi restaurant in the Memphis, TN area. Normally , I organize a group of 5 to 12 friends to arrive before 6pm during the week or 5:30pm on weekends. The restaurant does not accept reservations and after 7 pm there is normallt a longer wait time to be seated whether near the bar or anywhere else. The staff have ALWAYS helped to get us all seated together as a group with the longest wait time of 10 minutes as they had to wait for current customers to finish their meals. I usually arrive 15 to 30 minutes before others to talk to the staff and again they have always been overly helpful and accommodating, mentioning they appreciate my heads up before my friends arrive. Thus, my friends have never had to wait with me to get seated. The only 2 non positive but not truly negative comments I have are; the waiters and waiters do not take drink or bring any drinks other than an initial glass of water in a timely fashion. Non alcoholic and alcohol drinks take over 20 mibutes from of ordering to arrive with new drink orders taking longer. Second is the wait staff does not check on the table regularly. One of us has to search then attempt to get the attention of our waiter/waitress when we are ready to order food or anyone wants something such a a fresh drink or our water glasses refilled. Note: I really appreciate the restaurant giving a FREE spring roll after being seated. They automatically give this appetizer which they normally charge more than $3 per appetizer spring roll, if you order additional ones. Cost: I have eaten sushi and hibachi at Memphis area restaurants for over 20 years. Red Koi Japanese Cuisine Restaurant in the Poplar/Ridgeway Plaza has the least expensive menu. They offer everything every other restaurant I have been to. Hibachi and sushi options are at least $5 or more lower than any other Japanese or similar restaurant with similar menu options. My typical order is the hibachi filet mignon occasionally combined with chicken. There is an increased cost for the filet mignon vs. their regular steak option. It is minimal in my opinion and I enjoy a filet over regular steak. Even their "special" trio combination options are lower than other places. I have to reiterate, the taste, quality and freshness of their sushi options and hibachi options are excellent and well above other restaurants. Off the record: the only hibachi restaurant I also have enjoyed is the last one remaining in Memphis that actually cooks their customers food on a flat grill in front of them, Benihana's. HOWEVER, the ONLY reason to go there vs. Red Koi is the personal hibachi chef that is entertaining and interactive as they prepare your food. Again, the food is not as good as Red Koi and hibachi options are over $15 or more higher each.

This was my first time here and I will definitely be back when I'm in Memphis again. Spring rolls, clear soup and crab rangoons we're delicious. My Philadelphia roll was also very good. Prices are not bad either compared to other places around. My husband loves his order of fried rice I brought back to him.

The Oyakudon Donburi Mono was great! The eggs, and the chicken were very delicious and the portion was huge! I replaced the white rice with fried rice and it was great 👍🏾 The Katsudon Donburi was good but not as good, because we didn’t swap the white rice.

Came here spontaneously - food was great and the lady at the counter was very nice. They don’t have crab rangoons on their menu, but they made some for us. Sushi was really good and fresh. Highly recommend!
