Absolutely cannot rave enough about this swim facility. Both myself and my son take private swim lessons here. We’ve tried out many of the instructors here (due to our hectic schedule) and all are fantastic.
I am extremely disappointed with Swim Houston Aquatics. My son, who is ADHD and on the autism spectrum, was placed in a class where the instructor (Ms. Kayla) was piled with three children at once and then tried to send him back to level one after two years of lessons. I was calm and open to adjustments, but neither she nor the staff cared about how disruptive this would be for my child. When I requested a refund, the front desk staff told me I had to wait for “Karen” to process it. It has now been weeks, and I still have not received my refund. This is completely unacceptable, especially considering I drive over 30 minutes every week to bring my child here. Zero stars if I could. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Follow-Up: Your reply is misleading and inaccurate. You state that my refund was “already processed,” yet I only received half of my money back — and that was after I posted this review. You also claim you were unaware of my child’s needs for two years, which is simply not true. For a program that works with children, failing to recognize or document these needs is deeply concerning and negligent. Offering private lessons at an additional cost is not a real solution. It places the burden back on families instead of making reasonable accommodations in the group setting my son had been in for years. Parents deserve honesty, accountability, and genuine support — not excuses, partial refunds, or attempts to shift blame. This response shows a lack of responsibility and transparency. I will be pursuing this matter further, and I strongly caution other parents to think carefully before trusting this facility with their children.
My son has been coming here for at least 9 months now and we love it. He’s 2 years old and participating in swim class since 6 months old at another swim school. I noticed they weren’t actually teaching him skills so I switched to SHAC. My favorite pros are that my son has individual attention with the same coach every week, Coach Kayla, and I don’t have to get in the water with him. We’ve noticed tremendous progress since he’s been coming here. Most of all he has fun and his coach is so kind and loving with him. Every week he says “so much fun Ms. kayla” after class. It warms my heart to have an instructor provide such a happy time for him. He’s struggled with separation anxiety from time to time but Coach Kayla has been so patient and diligent building his confidence.
My 4yr old attended SHAC for a little over a year and most of the time I was very displeased. There was never a welcoming feeling except one Asian man that smiled at all times (great heart, sorry I don't know his name but always a pleasure). Everyone else, even the swim coaches were very dry and emotionless... and then there's coach Kayla! First couple of lessons... Great! She went out of her way to bring my kid a Bluey picture to color, just to try to build a bond, but it was almost immediately destroyed. Most lessons my child left crying and felt defeated about swim lessons. She loved to swim but hated going to swim lesson. I even picked up 2 days of lessons per week and then it changed the only day she hated was the day she had class with coach Kayla. Many lessons Kayla would yell at my child and express obvious frustration towards her. The straw that broke the camel's back was the day she grabbed her arm and slung her back to the starting point for the third time. I am okay with a discipline and teaching a child strength, but she went so far beyond what was acceptable. When I discuss my concerns with Kayla, she told me maybe I should reduce her lessons if I didn't like her style of coaching, which was extremely insulting since the only thing I asked was to not yell at a (at the time) new 5-year-old and definitely not aggressively sling a child around the pool to get your point across. I further expressed to her that yelling creates a extremely difficult learning environment and it does not build confidence. She did not receive my criticism and felt like we should move on. Therefore, we did. I proceeded to go to the front desk to express my concerns but had to wait 15 minutes while Kayla, Micah and the front desk worker gossiped and belittled my concerns together. When the front desk worker finally returned, I briefly described my concerns and asked that, if my work schedule does not permit for me to stop by the next day, please have Karen call me about my concerns and the refund for the classes I prepaid for. It has been over 2 months and I have yet to received a phone call or refund. I do not know what the success level is like on a competitive level, but I would never recommend anyone to bring their little one to this swim school.
Swim Houston Aquatic Center stands as Houston’s foremost aquatic facility, known for its impeccable cleanliness, affordability, and the exceptional guidance offered by its instructors. Micah, my dedicated swimming coach for nearly a year, consistently radiated kindness, politeness, and an unwavering belief in each learner’s potential to reach their highest capability. My time at SHAC was a profound journey of learning, and were it not for my work-related relocation, I would unquestionably continue as a devoted regular. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to SHAC for becoming a cherished home away from home. I wholeheartedly recommend SHAC for all your swimming needs. Thank you, SHAC! 😊
