This review is long overdue. In 2007, I was a high school senior at Kalani struggling with math and worried about my GPA. I needed to do well in my final year to get into the University of Hawaiʻi, so I walked into Sylvan Learning Center on my own—without a parent—asking for help. Joe, who was the head of Sylvan at the time, was genuinely moved that I had taken that initiative. He believed in me immediately. He arranged for tutors to work with me every single day, for hours at a time, to help me raise my grades. Because of that support, I was accepted into the University of Hawaiʻi. But it didn’t stop there. Joe encouraged me to think bigger and consider attending a mainland university. I applied, was accepted to the University of Washington in Seattle, and transferred. That decision changed the entire trajectory of my life. After graduating, I went on to work at Microsoft for seven years, then Amazon, and later some of the top tech companies in the world. Looking back, that moment—walking into Sylvan and having Joe invest his time, care, and belief in me—was truly pivotal. It changed my life. If anyone from Sylvan sees this, I would love to know what happened to Joe. If he’s still around, please tell him that Flora turned out okay—and that I am endlessly grateful.

Our two kids, Zed (6 years old) and Chuby (4 years old), have grown tremendously over the last year with Sylvan's dedicated instructors. The transformation has been incredible! Zed went from struggling to even draw a "Z" to reading at a 2nd-grade level within one year. Chuby can now confidently write his name, and he's only 4! What truly sets Sylvan apart is how much our kids enjoy going there—they genuinely look forward to their sessions more than actual school. The instructors are patient, skilled, and truly invested in each child’s success. We can’t recommend Sylvan Learning of Kahala highly enough. We have had our son enrolled in this tutoring program for a English and Math and he has a much easier time keeping pace with school. They have other programs that complement the main building blocks program for English and Math. They also have programs for English as a second language. They also have homework help and sat/sat prep. Something for every season of the academic year. Tutors are very patient and have a great mastery of the subject matter, and it shows in our son's progress in school. Recommended for any student that wants an edge at school and at the sat/ssat's.

Traje a mi hija para recibir ayuda en muchas áreas. Ella tiene necesidades especiales. No solo nos conectaron con un maestro, a quien mi hija se llevó de inmediato, sino que también se notó una diferencia notable en su habla, escritura y lectura. Además, el personal te trata como si fueras de la familia. Y puedes ir de compras al Kahala Mall mientras ellos están dando tutoría. Los recomiendo mucho.

Llevé a mi hijo a Sylvan para recibir ayuda en la preparación para el SAT. Sylvan pudo trabajar con nosotros dentro de nuestro plazo, y preparó a mi hijo enseñándole estrategias valiosas, y proporcionándole los recursos necesarios para practicar por su cuenta, incluso cuando sus lecciones habían terminado. A través de su programa, lo evaluaron y pudieron identificar sus áreas de fortaleza, así como sus áreas de debilidad. Usando estos datos, pudieron abordar sus áreas de mayor necesidad, lo que, en última instancia, dio lugar a un aumento de 200 puntos en su último SAT.
