The previous owner told us that our hours never expire so we brought a ton of hours. There was a lot of great qualified tutors. Now with the new owner, the tutoring quality isn’t as excellent as before. He told us our hours expire and since we moved, we were unable to finish all our hours before the expiration date. Currently there are fewer teachers and fewer kids. All of the teachers aren’t the credential teachers and they are just college students or high school students. Before there were three to four students per teacher but now there is four to six per teacher. When I was behind in school, I went to Sylvan to improve my reading and writing skills and with the help of Sylvan, my reading and writing assessment scores and my grades skyrocketed. Now not as much as before because I have to repeat the same skills over and over again. Repeat the cycle of reading the same passages and dealing with the same literary techniques. Repeating the same skills doesn’t challenge me much as before. Therefore, my learning improvement progress growth has slowed down and each tutoring sessions keeps on getting easier and easier that there is no point to go there to finish all my hours. I have been in Sylvan over three years. Don’t recommend this place. - Hannah Nguyen

Sylvan has been such a great help for our 5 year old daughter! According to her school she scored at grade level but was behind for her class. Sylvan was exactly what she needed to give her that extra boost! She enjoyed going 2x/week and the teachers were very kind and encouraging, especially Ms. Megan. Our daughter now has more confidence and the skills needed to excel in school, thank you Sylvan!

Sylvan Learning truly makes a difference!! Since attending this program, our grandson’s reading abilities, math skills, and self-confidence have remarkably improved. The directors, teachers, and staff take the time to identify what the child needs, and work with the child accordingly. Many years ago, Sylvan made a difference in our daughter’s academic progress. As such, we knew the right "gift" for our grandson to improve his reading and math skills. We highly recommend this program; and love the Long Beach location where he currently attends.

My son has been attending Sylvan for just a couple months and we already see a huge difference. My son was losing confidence in himself and it started to affect his whole attitude towards school. He was quite behind in reading but now has already progressed by a whole grade level. He enjoys going to Sylvan and its amazing for us to see his interest in reading increase. We have seen his confidence skyrocket. The staff are kind, flexible and genuinely excited to see our son succeed. It is pricey but setting my son up for a successful lifetime of learning is so worth it. We look forward to seeing his continued growth and would highly recommend Sylvan for any student who needs that extra support.
