I brought a couple Taco Platters to my office today and they we a huge hit. Generous portions, super affordable, and the salsas were fantastic - fair warning the hot salsa is no joke! Everything was ready right on time for pickup, and the staff was absolutely lovely. I will definitely be ordering again!
Beautiful in here. Soft jazz playing. The lengua is the BEST most tender we've ever had. Highly recommend.
Never been before, stopped by to try a taco, left with 3 different tacos and I'm glad I did! Absolutely delicious! The Birria was my favorite but enjoyed the others too, very much so. Will be coming back.
Please bear with me and read the long review. I'm trying a new thing out with my Google food reviews... Driving home, I took a random turn off Tudor and spotted a little sign that said “TACOS.” I literally said YES, PLEASE out loud and made a very sharp turn, my dog was not impressed with my driving. 😂 I pulled into Tacos El Primo, and the vibe immediately felt good. Good energy, Mexican music playing (not too loud), and a calm atmosphere before the dinner rush. I walked to the back where the menu glowed on a screen, and a super friendly woman greeted me. I told her it was my first time there, and she lit up, excited to share all about the Taco Tuesday specials. I had totally forgotten it was Tuesday (holiday weekends do that to you), so I knew I had lucked out. I went all in: 🌮 Two birria, two carnitas, Two chicken, Two al pastor and Two nopales (yes—cactus!) I’d never eaten cactus before, but wow—it was delicious. Honestly, every taco was. Then came the salsa question: “Mild or spicy?” I hesitated, gave her a shy look, and she guessed “Mild?” With a laugh I admitted yes… but added, “and one spicy too.” 😂 Both salsas were perfect with the tacos the mild was flavorful, and the spicy? Let’s just say I don’t know what they put in it, but my lips tingled for a bit while after 🥵🌶️. I also grabbed the agua fresca of the day—hibiscus. Refreshing, slightly tart, not too sweet (which I love), and the perfect balance to all the tacos. By the time I picked up my order, more people were already coming in. You can tell this spot gets busy, and with food this good, I hope it’s packed every night. The owners, I believe are a Mexican husband and Guatemalan wife, which makes this place even more special. I have never had Guatemalan food before and she told me some of the Guatemalan dishes are made with fresh homemade corn tortillas, and honestly, she had me at “homemade.” 🤤 They also serve Mexican breakfasts on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 9am something I’ve never seen in Anchorage, and now I can’t wait to try it. This review doesn’t come from someone of Hispanic or Latina descent, just someone who truly loves food, flavor, and new experiences. And trust me, Tacos El Primo delivers. Not just because the tacos were delicious but also because of the customer service and friendly atmosphere that greeted me when I came in. That little detour I took on my way home has officially changed my dinner plans for the better (and soon, my breakfast plans).
Delicious breakfast options! I had a traditional American breakfast , my mom had a traditional Guatemalan Breakfast (handmade tortillas) 😋 my hubs had the “Primo” burrito. Choice of background music - lovely Guitar strings 🎸 Coffee- ☕️was hot and has NICE DARK TASTE unlike other areas where coffee’s taste is bitter/watery. Owner’s name is Jackie, she was very welcoming. Price overall for the 3 of us fell around $45-50 Definitely know we’ll be back.
