I love this place. Me and my bestie go at least once a week, usually Fridays, for dinner and drinks. While the service has always been exceptional, the staff went above and beyond for us the other night, going out of their ways to learn the names of my friend and I after I made a comment about how I love having a regular place where everyone knows my name--like Cheers. So they served us desert while playing the Cheers theme song and talking to us by using our first names. We didn't request anything special, it wasnt anyone's birthday. That's just the kind of vibe in that place. You can get good food and drinks in a lot of places, but this place is exceptional because of the staff. And the sea bass. And sake. But mostly the staff. And the wagyu omg...
It's winter here....we all know it...feel it. In the dry cold morning air. Warm liquids are needed in the lair. To rehydrate and warm the inner core. Look no further then the Tamashi West for they do warm liquids best. From the Miso Soup to a steaming bowl of Udon Noodles that makes my belly & body feel so warmly cuddled. And the variety of hot teas is so soothing to my chilled spirit...go there...you will not regret it.
never fails or disappoints — i come here every once in a while and i must say the sushi and avocado bomb appetizer is so amazing (the mochi ice cream as well). always friendly and outgoing staff striving to make your experience the best it can be, food fresh and well prepared and a great dine in atmosphere. 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone wanting Japanese food on the west side.
Had such a great experience here! The whole staff was super friendly and on top of things, and our server Lauren was amazing. She was super attentive without hovering, gave great recommendations, and just had the best attitude the whole time. The food was awesome, but honestly it was Lauren and the team that made the night. You can tell they really care about their customers. We’ll definitely be back! 10/10 experience and everything tastes so fresh !!!!!!! ( The desert was so good we dug in before we could even take a picture but it was that good !!!! )
We've been wanting to visit for quite a while. When my Dad came to visit, we decided to take him for dinner. We went early on the Thursday before Balloon Fiesta. There were only a couple of other customers and we were seated immediately. The server was friendly and efficient. We ordered combo plates that came with miso soup. Miso is simple, but takes care and experience to make properly. The cooks obviously took care. It was great. Our entrees were delivered promptly. The presentation was impressive, with the sashimi served on crushed ice in a chalice. The nigiri was laid out on the plate below. When I was looking over the menu, I thought that the prices seemed a bit high, but the servings ridded me of that concern immediately. Each piece of fish, which included several types of tuna, was far larger than almost anything I've been served before. Matsuhisa in Aspen, CO is perhaps the only place I've seen larger portions. Tamashi is one of the few places in Albuquerque that serves authentic wasabi as well as the common horseradish most restaurants serve. My father, who traveled to Japan often for work before his retirement, declared that the sashimi was on a par with most Japanese offerings and better than nearly all he's had stateside. Our only quibble with the meal was that the rice in the nigiri on our combo plate was not sticky enough to hold its shape. Still, it was properly seasoned and delicious. Since we arrived before the dinner rush, the manager had time to visit each table and answer questions and ensure that everything was to our liking. I fancy myself as a connoisseur but not an expert, so we spent quite a bit of time learning about some of the intricacies of Tamashi's offerings. Overall, I have to say that I have found my new favorite place for Japanese food in Albuquerque and will be returning as often as I can afford to.
