John David’s handyman’s service sets the standard. He and his teammate are highly skilled. He reviews the jobs and gives you options on how to address the need, when applicable. He is honest and offers his handyman service with fair pricing. I gave him a challenging project and he exceeded my expectations. He approached this challenge with care, a focus on durability, and with enthusiasm. I have always appreciated the quality of his work, and the respect he gives his clients. I highly recommend The Handyman!

I'm writing this review to warn others. So much went wrong with my door install that I feel others should steer clear of this company. If I could have, I would have refused to pay for the services at all, as this cost me more to fix than it cost originally. Here's a TLDR: 1) The wrong door was suggested by the handyman, who then tried to blame the vendor. 2) The dog door was cut into the top of the door, leaving damage on the door, and then inserted backwards. 3) The workmanship was terrible quality with misaligned parts and rough edges. 4) Fiberglass, a known irritant, was left all over my property and the door itself. The first issue was that the handyman ordered the wrong door, and then tried to blame the vendor. My door is a lefthand inswing. He sent me a link to purchase from Home Depot. I made no changes to the link he sent me, which was for a pre-hung, righthand, inswing door (see screenshots). I noticed it was the wrong handedness when it arrived, unfortunately. The handyman argued with me that Home Depot had delivered the wrong door, stating that they had delivered a lefthand outswing. This is incorrect. Because it was a pre-hung door, it came with a directional frame showing the swing very clearly inward. Additionally, righthanded inswing doors have their hinges on the right when viewed from outside. This had hinges on the right, and was indeed a righthanded door, in contradiction of the handyman's claims. This tells me that he does not know how to tell how a door is handed. This is the bare minimum knowledge required to work on a door. I should have taken this for the red flag it was, but mistakes happen. So we proceeded with forging ahead with the install. The handyman then claimed that we did not need a pre-hung door and took it off the frame to use as a slab. In this case, why not order a slab door, minimizing waste? This was another mistake he could have corrected easily by ordering the right part, or otherwise explaining why we needed to order a pre-hung door. I requested that a dog door be inserted. While doing this, the handyman cut into the top of the door (see attached picture with drill holes at top of door). I think we can all agree that dogs do not fly, and that the dog door belongs on the bottom. To his credit, the handyman did offer to correct this error for free and gave me a discount. However, so many mistakes had been made at this point that I did not trust him to properly fix it and elected to hire someone else to do so. Additionally, even after correcting the dog door's location, the handyman installed it backwards with the panel insert used to close it off facing outward. This would mean that if I wanted to block the dog door off, I would have to open the door, insert the panel, and close the door again. This is undesirable in inclement weather, and is why dog doors have their panel inserts facing inward. This was another mistake that gave away the handyman's complete lack of knowledge. I ended up fixing this myself. The workmanship was also poor. The door is stiff and hard to open/close. The deadbolt is misaligned with its insert (see picture). Also, the door had to be cut down to fit within the existing frame. The handyman left a rough edge on the cut side, having neglected to sand it properly (see pictures). This is dangerous: anyone grabbing the edge of the door might come away with splinters or abrasions. Finally, the most egregious error is that the handyman left hazardous waste in the form of fiberglass particles on my property. The door itself was covered in a thin layer of loose fiberglass (see picture), which I only caught after touching the door and coming away with fiberglass in my hand. There was also fiberglass sporadically across my yard. While some fiberglass shed is to be expected when cutting into a fiberglass door, it should be cleaned up afterward. It is dangerous and negligent to leave a known irritant where people and animals can be exposed. I strongly recommend against hiring this company if you value workmanship and safety.
