It's hard to find Sri Lankan restaurants, so was happy to find The Lion in Liverpool. I picked up on the way home, although the restaurant itself looks nice. And it has good reviews for a reason, the food is really good. Even though I am not crazy about mixing pineapple in savoury food, I must say their pineapple curry, Annasi Maaluva, was really something else! Nice, full, spicy and zesty flavour. There is a Japanese menu too, which features non spicy things too, like the excellent tempura soft cell crab. Top it off with a mochi and you are set. As you get 3 mochi it would be nice if you could combine - maybe they'd be fine with it if you call. Prices were quite modest too. Edit: I've had delivery a few times since and dined in too. It's one of my favourite restaurants, you really can't beat their Sri Lankan curries. I think the Salmon and the Pineapple are my personal favourites, although I can't say the cashew one is far behind. Devil dishes are great as long you don't mind the heat, and the crab is good (but messy!). Expect good service as well, and I really appreciate the fact that it's a dog friendly restaurant, which is something that's not very common with S. Asian restaurants. Update: Even though the food is consistently good, I am deducting at least one star due to my latest bizarrely bad delivery experience. After making an Uber eats order of 3 seafood and veggie curries and 2 sushi plates, they called me to tell me their sushi chef will be there at 5:30 ( it was 4:30) at the time, I explained we were fine with waiting if they could send it later and they seemed happy to do so. The order seemed stuck for a while and we ended up getting it a bit after 7. The 2 sushi dishes were missing and instead there was a lamb curry and egg rice. We called and they simply told us their sushi chef did not come and they replaced them without calling is. My partner started complaining (she doesn't eat meat so was quite upset), but they hang up. I can understand something went wrong with their staff, but replacing sushi in an obviously non-meat order with lamb without asking is crazy. The missing sushi was also 50% more expensive than the replacement - when you are trying to fix something you are supposed to be generous not stiff the customer. It's very sad because it's still my favourite curries, but it will be hard to convince my partner to order after this :(

Had never tried Sri Lankan food before, and found this restaurant as we wanted something to eat close to Anfield. We weren't disappointed. The coconut roti starter was delicious, as were the mains. The servers were very good, despite being very busy. This is definitely worth a visit.

One of the best Sri Lankan restaurants I’ve visited. Great atmosphere from the moment you enter the restaurant and very beautiful interior deco. The menu covers many Sri Lankan dishes and also Japanese cuisine. Tried the Chicken Koththu, Fish Cutlets and Fish Rolls which were perfectly spicy and delicious and also very filling. They also serve Lion beer which is rare across the country. Owner and the staff are super friendly and will definitely make you feel welcome. Will be going again to try a few more dishes as soon as possible.

first time in this restaurant 15 minutes from the center of Liverpool... certainly different from the usual ethnic restaurants. traditional Sri Lankan cuisine 🇱🇰 and Japanese dishes but don't expect sushi. The cocktails were very good and both my wife and I enjoyed starters and main courses. my daughter ordered chicken and chips. It was a pleasant discovery and definitely worth returning.
