The short version: there is a customer who is consistently aggressive and confrontational toward other patrons, and management has not taken meaningful action to protect their customers. Based on my own experience, what staff told me, and what other reviews describe, I’m shocked this individual is still allowed in the building. The long version: I came in on a Tuesday evening during open bowling. I was sharing a ball return with a very polite family. Out of nowhere, another customer approached me and loudly accused me of being rude because I wasn’t returning to the booth after each frame. I’ve bowled at many places and have never heard of any rule like that. I wasn’t even sharing a ball return with him. I apologized just to avoid a confrontation. A few minutes later, he stormed up to me again and berated me for standing near the ball return while my pins were resetting. It was completely unprovoked and aggressive. The family next to me heard everything and told me I was doing nothing wrong. Not long after, an employee approached me, apologized, and said he had spoken to the customer and that it wouldn’t happen again. The waitress also apologized when she heard what happened and gave me a coupon for free games, which I appreciated — she was great. When I closed out my tab, another staff member told me that this same customer has been a recurring problem for years. After reading another recent review describing almost the same type of confrontation, it’s clear this is not an isolated issue. My confusion is simple: if someone has been causing problems for years and repeatedly harasses other patrons, why hasn’t management removed him from the premises? Talking to him clearly doesn’t work. I paid $35 for what turned into a miserable experience, and it could have been prevented if this ongoing issue had been addressed properly. I can’t recommend this place anymore. It was way too much drama for a night of casual bowling
Town Hall Lanes is an awesome bowling alley and bar! I'm not a frequent bowler but their overall vibe is excellent and I had a blast—plus their beer is great, I really liked their “Black H20 Oatmeal Stout.” The space wasn't too crowded when I visited on a Sunday afternoon to bowl with friends and the service was good. Their “Roasted Pork Nachos” were just okay, but they did definitely satisfy that bar food craving. Overall I had a great experience and I recommend checking this place out! I will definitely be back.
Not really such a great place, maybe it is if you're bowling or having a drunk old time. The staff didn't really seem welcoming at all and our waitress was not great. Spilling drinks, being discourteous, etc it just wasn't a great time. The space is huge and there's lots of room for big groups not just in the bowling alley. The beer is well priced at $6 for their taps which comes to about $9 after tax and tip. That's what you usually pay at most places these days. Can't recommend it but you take your chances.
You will find the typical American bar food menu here, which is essentially the exact same menu that this restaurant group uses at their other locations in the city. They have their own beer offerings which taste great and offer quite a variety but they also have guest beers with a rotating list of local favorites. During this visit, I had the "chicken platter" which was chicken strips and fries. The chicken strips were definitely homemade and were the best I had had anywhere in years. The fries are lightly battered too, which I love. As far as the bowling goes -- our group had a ton of fun! It was relatively affordable at $5 per game, per person. And there was staff attending to the lanes to keep the beer flowing. During our third game, our lane (#8) kept getting stuck and needing manual intervention from the staff to reset the pins and bowling balls. They were always quick to fix and even took the last game off our bill for the inconvenience. Town hall will always feel like home. Warm and cozy with wonderful staff, good food, and great beer!
I haven't had the chance to eat here yet, but the menu is interesting and the food I did see coming our of the kitchen looked good. The bar area is a fun spot, with a few bowling lanes next to it. Good list of bourbon options that rivals most in the Twin Cities.
