My agent left but no one ever told me until I called to talk to him. Let that go and took advice from new agent on where to put my investments. That proved to be BIG mistake. Then they transfer my account to NJ without telling me. I decided to get away and that was an act of God. 9 phone calls and I don't know how many emails. Told me my request has to be in writing and notarized, then told we can do everything over the phone , then told had to be both. these people have no idea what customer service is.

I had been with my advisor for over 15 years. He sadly passed away and we were not informed of his death for over a month. We had a wonderful relationship with him and considered him a friend. He was a good guy and cared about us as people. After his passing I was not sure who our advisor was and couldn't get a clear path for the future. Although we retired and moved 1200 miles away I never considered leaving UBS in Lincoln, until this tragic incident. I have since moved my assets from UBS and closer to our new home.

I just think it's sad that my adviser had passed for 3 weeks and I hadn't been notified. How I found out was when I called to ask him a question. Then it took corporate an additional 2 months to send a letter out to his clients. After that nothing was the same.

I must state that all the people at UBS Private Wealth / UBS Financial Services are nice people. I invested with them between 2012 and 2020. However, be aware that they have some extremely high net-worth investors that they involve themselves with the most. You will hear about them (without the names) a lot, as they spent a lot of time with them. Shortly after I moved my investments to UBS, their group director, Mr. Beukelman moved to Denver to have greater airport flexibility and access to these high Net-worth clients. However, my investments at UBS languished during the Obama years, compared to the S&P. We had about 1/3 of our nest egg in “alternative investments”, that lost money, and took us years to disengage. I had to remind them repeatedly to schedule semi-annual meetings to discuss our financial progress. They never updated our financial plan to reflect our other non-financial investments. Once I balked at 1.5% per year financial planning fees, which they refused to negotiate, I moved our investments to the general UBS risk-stratified funds with lower management fees, but still 4x what you pay at E-Trade, (which I think did much better than the actively managed – although I don’t really know, as they did not ever show us how much better they could do with individual guidance). Once I did that, they never scheduled meetings to review our progress unless we called them. The UBS website was so convoluted (until the last year or so), you could not figure out what was your net yield. When asked about a plan for our future withdrawal of retirement funds to minimize tax burdens, they referred me to my accountant, as they “don’t do this”. Our investment with them did not total even 0.1% of the amount they have under advisement, so I can only assume that they could not be bothered with convincing us that they could do better than investing on my own (with UBS still charging a hefty management fee). I would suggest that if you want their attention, based on other investors I know, you will need at least $5-10 million to invest.
