Liz Murphy's workshop at Woodward Contemporary was a memorable experience. The gallery is not just a beautiful gallery and studio space, but you can feel the warmth and loving energy the moment you walk into the gallery! Gigi, Carlos & Kerstin are an amazing team. They are always there when you need them. They do everything top notch and want to make everyone feel at home... which they do brilliantly! Love this gallery & look forward to returning to San Diego for another workshop!
Visiting Woodward Contemporary for Liz Murphy’s workshop felt like coming home as an artist. From the beautiful blank open space to the tastefully curated gallery of works, to the amazing team running the show. And I have to mention the studio dogs, who made me so happy when they visited! I loved that I didn’t have to think about food and I could concentrate on making art and learning. I also loved that they are so thougtful about the environment - composting, recycling and keeping acrylic paint waste out of the drains. I loved getting to know Ker, Gigi and Carlos. Thank you for the most memorable weekend. Top notch experience. I can’t wait for my next workshop.
Woodward Gallery is an amazing space to learn, create, and connect with other artists. The open studio sessions offer a rare opportunity to gather, share ideas, and grow together in a genuinely supportive environment. The space is thoughtfully run, welcoming, and full of creative energy — a true gift for artists looking for community and inspiration.
I recently attended a workshop with Gordon Studer at Woodward Contemporary, and the experience was nothing short of inspiring. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt welcoming and alive with creative energy. The staff—Carlos, Gigi, and Kris—were attentive and gracious, ensuring every detail ran seamlessly. The space itself is beautifully designed, perfectly suited for both intimate gatherings and larger workshops. What stood out most was the sense of genuine community that Gordon and the Woodward team fostered within the class. I’ve participated in many workshops before, but I’ve never felt as connected to both the instructor and fellow artists as I did here. Each day was thoughtfully planned, from the phenomenal lunches to the glass of wine shared at the end—a gesture that encouraged conversation and connection. There’s clearly a vibrant, living art community at Woodward Contemporary, with artists continually stopping by to exchange ideas and support one another. My trip to San Diego was absolutely worth it, and I would return to Woodward Contemporary in a heartbeat. It’s a rare place where creativity, community, and hospitality truly converge.
My daughter and I both attended the Cathrine Edlinger-Kunze workshop and were delighted to find this gem of a place. The instruction and expertise of Cathrine was only matched by the friendly and very accommodating staff! The building has a beautiful patio for lunches and breaks! Gigi, Carlos, Ker are all the best! I can’t recommend Woodward enough-a lovely experience. The wine at the end of the day was the icing on the cake! Debbie Moore
