Visited here twice in 2 months - the food is authentic and modern. The quality of the fish is one of the best out of all the japanese restaurants in the city. You can even tell they pride on quality ingredients just by the rice they use. They use fresh wasabi which is a lovely change to the bright green stuff other restaurants serve. Make sure to book as they can fill up easily. Service was good, staff knowledgeable and although it was a full house, they kept it professional.

The best Japanese restaurant I have ever been to! If you want to try authentic Japanese food without going to Japan, please visit Yamato restaurant. Everything here makes you slow down and enjoy food and drinks. Portions might not be as big as you expect however you will get enough. I am not going to lie - this place is pricey, but it is worth every penny we spent, and we will definitely come back.

Honestly, everything was amazing! If I could give them 5+ stars, I would. This was my first night in Edinburgh, and being Christmas eve, many places are closed. Managed to make a reservation for this restaurant and am very I did. I ordered the following foods: 4 pieces of oyster Octopus nigiri Soft shell crab sushi Grilled wagyu gunkan Chocolate mochi The highlight was definitely the grilled wagyu gunkan. Although everything else was nice, I did have higher expectations for the oysters. Regardless, it doesn't affect my rating for this restaurant. The two cocktails I had (Kinkakuji and a Sakura) were also delicious. The Kinkakuji being my favorite of the two. The staff were all also very nice and attentive. Compliments to all of them! If you're ever in Edinburgh and looking for a place to eat, make this restaurant your number one choice.

Our first visit and a fantastic experience with wonderful service, efficient and very friendly. Fantastic food, prepared to a high standard. A specialist in Wagyu beef, we couldnt resist the Wagyu Roll, we also tried the Avocado Maki, Dragon Roll, Scottish Salmon Sashimi, Grilled Aubergine and some gyoza. This was our test run and will certainly be back, highly recommended. For me the Sashimi was incredible, buttery melt in your mouth goodness. Really stand out service though, didnt catch a name, but a super friendly American chap. Thanks for a great evening.

Still the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh IMO. Premium quality of sashimi and wagyu. During our last visit, there was the “Best Sashimi Platter” (if I remember the name correctly) with 3 pieces of oysters plus 9 or 10 different types sashimi, on the special menu - definitely go for this whenever available. And don’t miss the eel rice as well.
