I was concerned about being a new customer so close to the holidays. I had electrical work done a few months ago by another company and was not pleased with that company’s work. I had an unexpected electrical issue come up and I was very stressed that I might have to live with the situation for weeks and I felt vulnerable that I didn’t have a “go-to” electrician yet in San Diego. I ran some searches and researched the top results. I reached out to ZED and received a prompt callback from Tara, who was knowledgeable and professional. She was able to schedule a service visit within 48 hours of my initial contact. James communicated when he would arrive, was right on time, diagnosed the issue thoroughly, fixed it, left my place as it was before the visit. James explained the problem, shared the questions he needed to research, updated me regularly, explained the solution he implemented, and gave me tips about how to best use and care for the system. The care and professionalism given to me by Tara and James calmed my stress and gave me confidence that I was in good hands. Whew! The relief was REAL. The price was very reasonable and the service at every level was top notch. I heartily recommend ZED.
Text message from ZED said to leave Jake their electrician a review but come to find out it’s for ZED and not Jake. Jake was great! Very professional and did an amazing clean job on the install. Jake gets 5 stars! However, ZED gets 3-4 stars and I’ll tell you why. In August of 2024, we had ZED replace the exact same barn style led exterior security light for a total of $520. They had to order the light from a distributor they used at the time but do not use anymore but that light is unbelievably bright and the area coverage of light is crazy! I was super impressed with it as the HOA President of our complex so much that I had our property manager call them back out to replace another light that was going out. This second time we were quoted $740 and I was in shock as that was a $220 increase from the year prior and called to ask why? They said they raised their labor rate to $260 an hour and that they didn't use that distributor of the previous light anymore but they could source a similar one. The one they sourced this second time was from home depot and cost $102 rounded up plus tax. Then come to find out, we had some additional issues regarding dry rot on the wood paneling of our building where a junction box was connected to that needed to be replaced and instead of charging us $260 per hour they only charged us $65 per 15 mins at 45 mins for an additional $195 for the labor of replacing the junction box. I was able to get us a 10% discount off the initial quote of $740 to $666 plus the additional $195 for a total of $861. So when it comes to the question below in this review that says, “How would you describe the price you paid!” I put “Unsure” but in actuality, I feel it was over priced as $260 per hour for a labor rate is insane and especially compared to what we paid last year for the same type of light that was sourced from home depot this second time. Over all, Jake was amazing and ZED is a great company but their labor rate now is insane in my opinion. How can you justify $520 one year to $740 the next year for the same type of light replacement. That’s a 40% increase!
I really appreciated Jake’s integrity. I’m new back to SanDiego and was given several names of electrical companies to work with. I was super happy as they were able to come out next day for the heat not working in my house. He was able to troubleshoot the system and confirm a few of my concerns. I had never lived in this home. I bought 14 years ago so didn’t understand how certain aspects of the HVAC and electrical system worked. He was very knowledgeable. He is a very strong communicator and was not “man explaining” nor condescending in any fashion. I really appreciated him being respectful and kind. I got good information and will wait for quotes to make additional changes to my existing and rather elderly heating system.
I had a dishwasher installation scheduled for Tuesday, and on Black Friday Costco notified me that the dishwasher had to be plugged into a dedicated GFCI outlet. Not exactly the news you want to get during a holiday weekend. Zed Electric made the whole situation incredibly easy. Their scheduling was smooth, and Kevin 206 — the technician who came out — was outstanding. He was efficient, a great communicator, and clearly knew exactly what needed to be done. The work was done quickly and professionally, and the entire experience showed me how great this company is. Zed Electric is very easy to do business with, and I’m really glad I found them. Highly recommended!
Jesus was prompt, courteous & knowledgeable on replacing lights fixtures w recessed lighting on a dimmer switch. Made good suggestions & was efficient w his time installing new lights. Jesus was aware of the need to leave area clean during entire process due to pet. Highly recommend using Zed electric
