I brought a batch of mixed scrap gold (including a 10K chain, a 14K chain, and a 22K British Half Sovereign coin brooch) to A&A Jewellers for a cash quote based on melt value. My total gold weight was approximately 11 grams across the different purities. They offered a flat rate of $475 CAD for the entire lot. I immediately refused. Based on current market rates and the separate karats, the conservative scrap melt value for this gold is over $950 CAD. Their offer of $475 CAD did not even cover the melt value of the 22K Half Sovereign coin alone, completely excluding the value of the 7 grams of 10K and 14K chains. When challenged on the 22K purity of the coin, their testing equipment provided a faulty 17K reading. This business appears to significantly undervalue precious metals. Advice: Do not bring your scrap gold here. Take your gold to a licensed, high-volume bullion dealer (like Gatewest Coin or Winnipeg Gold Buyer) who pays a high percentage (85%+ or more) of the spot melt price. You will receive significantly more money for your gold."
Updated review: A&A is probably my FAVOURITE local business. I wanted to make a small change to my grandma’s engagement ring, they made suggestions and I ended up changing the centre stone for a larger diamond. I gasped when I picked up the ring because of how beautifully they made the changes. I would never go to any other jewelry store. Amazing people that care about the work that they do and are honest about pricing and so knowledgeable. I have since gotten a pendant done there and am currently re-sizing another ring. I will continue to get pieces done there and would only trust them with any vintage jewelry! Exceptional customer service!! I needed to get my engagement ring re-sized and it was done within 4 days! It is really great that they do everything in store and don’t have to send it away like most other places. Pricing for resizing was much less than everywhere else I inquired (mainly because most other stores send it away and takes 2-3 weeks to get your item back). It always feels great to support a local small business. Will definitely be going back if I ever need anymore jewelry re-sizings!
Wish I knew about this place years ago. Great people that seem to really care about the business and the people that's shop there. Fantastic prices and if you need something fixed ... I highly recommend this place..
Exceptional service. I went to have a clasp repair on a bracelet and the young woman fixed it on the spot. Good deal for watch battery as well. Beautiful selection of consignment jewellery. Would 100% recommend!
Recently had a loose stone tightened in a ring. A very good customer service experience. Both women that I spoke with during the process were kind, knowledgeable and professional. And to my delight, a service that was expected to take a week took only two days! Would not hesitate to recommend this business. An adorable little gem of a shop. Will definitely be back in the future.
