Wouldn’t dream of letting anyone else take care of my pups. They have been with us every step of the way thru well care, routine care, emergency visits, surgeries, chronic problems from the day they arrived to the day they crossed the rainbow bridge. They have loved all our pups, Jack, Blue, Salt, Sarge, Hank and Fin. They genuinely do everything they can to help keep your pets happy and healthy for the best life possible. Dr. Wages, Bianca and Val have gone above and beyond too many times to count.
This was my first vet experience with my new rescue dog, and I realized I was overcharged and received poor care after going to a different vet. At my first appointment, the vet made little effort to calm my 17-pound dog, muzzled him, and refused to do a full exam, saying it would cause unnecessary stress. He brushed off my concerns about allergies, said my dog just needed a haircut, and refused to check his ears, that previously had a yeast infection with the foster, even though I asked. The vet claims to be fear-free certified, but the vet didn’t even try offering treats or making my dog comfortable. After I called to complain, they let me return without charging for the visit but still billed a high fee for the ear exam which did come back as infected. I also had to be the one to suggest calming medication, as the vet didn’t bring it up himself. Later, when my dog came back for a 2nd shot, they failed to mention it was also a recheck for his ear infection and charged over $100 just to say it was clearing up. When I boarded him there a few weeks later, he came back with large hot spots under his chin and they provided no feedback on how my dog did during his stay. They also required a fecal exam that came back negative, yet the next day I found large tapeworms in his stool. When I contacted Care First about the false result, they only called to apologize with no real action or test refund. After this, I switched to a new vet who treated my dog’s worms, hot spot and itchiness right away. They were gentle, used treats, didn’t need a muzzle or calming medication, charged much less and were transparent about price options, and even checked his ears without an extra fee. The staff here overall were nice people, but I would not recommend this clinic unless your dog is seen by a more experienced vet.
To say that Dr. Wages is the absolute best veterinarian you could ever ask for is an understatement. When other vets told me my soul dog was just “prone to cancer,” and gave up immediately, Dr. Wages took us in that night and ran scans and made up a plan to keep her alive. She often called at 7 or later at night to update us on our sweet baby Lola’s test results. She stopped at nothing to save her life. Ultimately, we had another year and a half with her despite hemangiosarcoma because of Dr. Wages. She sat right on the floor with my sweet girl every time we came. Oberlin is about an hour from us, but our other baby has a lump, and I immediately called for Dr. Wages. I don’t trust anyone else. She is an angel. Truly!
Dr. Wages has been our veterinarian for the past 5 years. Freddie Lou our Yorkshire Terrier and Mailein a Coton de Tulear, belongs to our very dear friend have been under Dr. Wages care since they were 14 weeks. Both puppies had significant issues after purchase. Dr. Wages accurately diagnosed the problems immediately. Our Yorkie had Legg-Perthes Disease which is when the head of the thigh bone is deformed creating lameness. Dr. Wages scheduled our Yorkie for surgery immediately with a positive outcome! We haven’t thought about it again. Dr. Wages also diagnosed Mailein, Coton de Tulear, with poor hearing and a tilted head. Dr. Wages referred us to an expert neurologist in Durham where Mailein was treated successfully. Here we are five years later with two happy healthy dogs still under the excellent care of Dr. Wages. We see Dr. Wages once a year for their annual checks and in between for their aches, pains & UTI. We feel extremely fortunate to have someone as talented and caring take care of dogs whom we love like children. Pam & Ken Fortier ps: Last Friday after work about 6pm we arrived at CareFirst Vet Clinic without an appointment with both dogs S I C K. Out the door comes Dr.,Wages on here way home after a long week at work. Dr. Wages saw my husband, me and two sick dogs. She immediately turned around and told us she would stay and take care of our dogs, instead of handing us off to whoever was on call! She collected their urine, blood, ran the appropriate test, look them over made an accurate diagnosis and prescribed meds. It is Monday and all is well. Both dogs are doing great!! Thank you Dr. Wages. We are so very grateful! Pam, Ken, Freddie & Mailein
