As someone with a background in dog training and behavior, I take great care in evaluating boarding facilities, not just for their appearance, but for their approach to canine care and behavior management. On a positive note, this facility is clean, modern, and well-maintained. The environment appears safe and secure for dogs, which is important for any boarding service. However, I was disappointed by the customer service experience, particularly at the front desk. One staff member in particular has come across as consistently rude and disinterested, not just toward me, but also toward the dogs during check-in and pick-up. Our dog is leash-reactive, a behavior issue I’m very familiar with both personally and professionally. He has never bitten another dog or person, in fact, he remained submissive even when attacked by another dog in the past. Unfortunately, the staff quickly labeled him as “aggressive” based solely on his leash reactivity. This kind of mischaracterization shows a lack of understanding of canine behavior and reinforces why training and behavior knowledge should be a baseline requirement for staff at such facilities. Additionally, when reviewing other feedback online, I noticed a pattern: rather than taking accountability or responding constructively to negative reviews, the facility seems to dismiss them altogether. This unwillingness to reflect or improve based on client concerns is a red flag. While the facility may check the boxes aesthetically, my experience suggests that improvements in staff training, communication, and behavioral understanding are needed for it to truly earn the trust of dog owners who care deeply about their pets’ well-being.
I will never return to Carolina Pet Place! I have taken my dog there twice & both times she came back injured. The first time she had an unexplained scratch on her nose. Most recently, after a 4-day stay, she came with cuts & scratches near her eye, shoulder & paw, along with a swollen lip. When questioned the employee (who appeared to be the owner), he had no clear explanation-only suggesting that my dog has " a lot of energy"' and should be on sedatives. I was stunned by this response and asked to see where she had been kept. What I saw was deeply disturbing: dried blood on the wall and on some jagged areas on the wired cage. It was obvious the jagged areas were caused by rust & were only repainted. It was also obvious these rough surfaces are what caused my dog's injuries as she likely became anxious from the noise of other dogs and moved around in distress. My dog is neither aggressive nor overly energetic. She was clearly frightened during her stay. What also upset me was the lack of compassion or responsibility. The employee flippantly said "She did this to herself", and offered no apology, concern, or even a discount on the bill (which was the least of my worries). I felt I should have been contacted. I can't imagine what she would have looked like if I had been away longer. The claims on their website about prioritizing pets' well-being are in my experience, completely false. I trusted them with my dog's care and they failed her. Worst of all, she is still not herself after this traumatic experience. I really don't want to give them 1 star.
This is the only place I would take my sweet golden doodle. The staff takes such good care of her. Carolina Pet Place is the next best thing to home. They truly set the standard here in the triad!
In our family we refer to the "Carolina Pet Palace" because they have treated our dogs like their own for a long long time. It was fun to see my new puppy board for the first time. His new haircut is especially handsome!! I highly recommend Carolina Pet Place.
These folks are great. They genuinely love taking care of dogs and you can tell that your pet looks forward to the next visit. The groomer is excellent also. Your kid/s will be well looked after.
