My son loves going here , his trainer/mentor Danny is awesome! He's help build my son's confidence, and goes beyond as a trainer. Being a widow of two, raising a son alone, was not a choice. Danny is more than a trainer, he's become family.
Great gym. Eric, the instructor, is a great instructor. He succinctly explains jiu jitsu concepts. When I was having calf cramps he gave me some electrolytes to fix them. Highly recommend if a local or in town for a business trip
Ive been a student of bjj for the past 3.5 years with three major surgeries in between so those of you who love this discipline as much as I do know what it means to find the right gym for you as you recover. And as a female athlete around 107 lbs in a grappling sport, you have to be a bit picky about which leader you select to (eventually/hopefully) get your black belt under. Im truly grateful to have found Citadel Martial Arts. Im a busy working student mom in the field of social work so I can't afford a second to waste. I travel often 35-40 minutes in public transit to get to Citadel and I do not regret the time spent to achieve my goal. why. because quality coaches of integrity are hard to come by these days. I wish that were not the case but those who also take this sport seriously know what im talking about. And the unnecessary/uninformed trash talk by fellow practitioners reminds one of how some refuse to mature past grade school. Im allergic to those type so Citadel works for me. Steve, My, Trevor, Eric, Lionel, Jideofor, Zeal are top notch, speaking as a Boston educator of over 17 years in a different discipline. Im proud to be a member of this community and grateful that Eric intentionally keeps it safe/non toxic. I hardly ever leave class Not drenched in sweat having given it my all, feeling like I can now take on most other challenges in my life. I dare those of you of like mind to join us.
Citadel is the place you go to learn and improve in martial arts. Training is safe and fun and innovative. The coaches are welcoming to anyone who comes in through the doors as a teammate and offers them the best coaching available. I joined citadel with a lot of Muay Thai experience and I’ve loved every minute of training with all the hard working guys and gals at the gym to improve my striking. I recently started BJJ and it’s also been an incredible experience. Each class someone is there and ready to show me the details that I might miss as a new comer to the sport of BJJ. Each class I push myself with the help of the coaches to improve and build on my skills. The gym is clean. The prices are very reasonable. The schedule is flexible. The coaches are top notch. The environment is inclusive (women’s class FTW). And most importantly the vibes are right every time M-Sat. Whether I’ve been training for a fight in Muay Thai or learning to shrimp from the brown or black belts who lead class, i feel supported and pushed to better myself. I cannot more highly recommend Citadel. Tbh the only downside is you’ll never want to leave ❤️ Honestly it’s heartbreaking to read such an antisemetic and false review on google about this gym. I hope bigots realize that they’re not doing their own gyms (yeah, we see you…) any favors leaving reviews that are patently false, hateful, and blatantly bigoted. Also I just want to add this gym is involved in so many great charity organizations and community efforts. Check out Haymakers’s for hope for example. Or their free community classes for women. 100/10
Dropped in for a BJJ class from out of town and was welcomed into the group immediately. Steven is a great instructor and I would highly recommend. A very convenient location in downtown Boston and a great atmosphere if you're looking for a gritty, hard-working gym environment.
