The staff was wonderful, but the restaurant smelled as if there was a sewer problem, and was freezing cold. Our waiter and the chef were very entertaining - the steak was cooked perfectly, and the rice was good, but the rest had very little flavor. While we were waiting for our table, I watched the chef prepare several beautiful sushi rolls, and wished I had ordered that instead.
My lunch companion and I ordered 2 appetizers and entrée prepared in front of us, tables idea. The mushroom soup was good as were the appetizers except for the calamari which was clearly a frozen product, heavily breaded and as chewy as rubber. Our entrée, one shrimp and the other scallops were delicious. The noodles were yummy and the mixed vegetables were perfectly crisp/tender. We'd like to return and try some more. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. Update 1/22/26. We went back and included a vegetarian friend. We had a reservation which I found out, is usually required to be seated around the grills. We went with fried vegetable filled egg rolls and the vegetable hibachi dinner -sized entree. The salad dressing is amazing. The miso soup was flavorful but needed salt. The fried rice and noodles along with the grilled vegetables was awesome! So glad we went back so soon. Even in the snow, the restaurant was filled with patrons by 12 noon. Shout out also for having one of the cleanest bathrooms that I've been inside in a very long time.
Went with a party of 7. Service/ staff are great , atmosphere is good and prices are reasonable. Staff members cooking the meat pit on a good “show” and are fun. Prices are good and hibachi meals include salad, fried rice, soup, noodles, 2 pieces shrimp and meat. Sushi rolls are on the small side but good quality. Soup is so so, salad is poor, fried rice is tasty but very heavy on the butter. Our staff member overcooked our chicken and steak but I was because I ordered it rare and got medium. File mignon is significantly better than the regular steak cut. You also get noodles which were drenched on an extremely sweet sauce . Everything is slightly heavy on the salt, oils , sauces but overall you get lots of food and everyone in my party was happy. If you have a group and want a fun dinner you can’t go wrong. Also the menu is big with lots of options. Staff are well trained.
Just like Notre Dame football on a winning Saturday in South Bend, Dao Sushi & Grill comes out strong and never lets up. I had the steak and chicken hibachi, and it was absolutely on point — perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and sizzling from start to finish. The steak was tender, the chicken juicy, and the portions were generous, the kind of performance you expect when everything is clicking. Eating here felt like being back near Notre Dame Stadium, when the Irish are rolling and the crowd knows it’s going to be a win. The hibachi grill ran like a championship offense — efficient, exciting, and consistent with no wasted plays. Just like a big ND victory, you leave full, happy, and already planning your return. Dao Sushi & Grill is a winning spot all around. Five-star effort, total team win. 🍀🏈
Amazing spot, the Habachi show is great, staff is very welcoming and they put on a good show. I think price wise it's worth it especially cuz of the show and honestly, Habachi portions are vast... enough for 2 people lol. I made the mistake of ordering a roll before that, big no no.
