First. We were here (20 of us).The atmosphere was great to begin with. The servers were very kind, accommodating, and professional. The food was amazing. Minus one person's being undercooked, twice after a refire. Everything went smoothly, the surprise engagement, the dinner. But towards the end when the servers along with one of our friends were trying to figure out the bill (+ $1500 btw) and get it split appropriately. This guy named James came upstairs barking that everyone needs to leave immediately. We tried to explain we getting the bill figured out. He then started slamming chairs and yelling at the servers. One of our friends politely asked why he's being so rude. Then he stormed off downstairs and started kicking some of our group out that was waiting for the ones figuring the bill out with it being minus 10 degrees outside. I feel like the night would have ended perfectly for this engagement. But James made literally everyone there say. They would never revisit. I hate doing reviews like these. But this needs to be addressed.
Potentially found my new favorite drink, a New York Sour! So good! People were asking us about it. The restaurant was packed for New Year’s Eve as expected. Staff were very busy and working hard to accommodate everyone. We certainly understood that they were a bit behind on reservations and appreciated their transparency about this to set expectations. The bar and those gathering became overcrowded and somewhat interfered with tables in the bar area. We ended up being seated at a small table in the corner of the bar against a cold window on a very windy night. Not the end of the world, but not an ideal space. Our server was so friendly, but you could tell was overworked. She had most if not all of the tables in the bar area. She was moving constantly, and her ability to check on us more often and be attentive was not possible. The star of the show was definitely the house mashed potatoes. If you are a rosemary lover, don’t think twice! My filet had good flavor, but was not cooked evenly. About half of the steak was medium well. The other half was closer to medium, but that is being generous. Overcooked for sure. The server was incredibly apologetic and offered to provide us with a free dessert. Three all gender bathrooms for this restaurant is not enough on a busy night. The wait was significantly more than I expected. They were very clean and luxurious! I would return again, but would most likely consider dinner at the bar or a different table upstairs.
We just had an incredible meal at Draper Brothers on the Square in Madison. We started with the whipped ricotta for an appetizer, then had lobster Mac and cheese, lamb chops, and the scallops for our entrees and sides. We finished with a decadent chocolate cake. The atmosphere is awesome. It has a very upscale feel but casual enough that I don’t think you have to be dressed up to go. This is our new favorite restaurant in Madison.
If you haven’t had a chance to dine at Draper Brothers Chophouse, do yourself a favor and make a reservation ASAP! It’s evident that their ownership and staff have spared no details: from a thoughtfully curated menu to attentive service and an intimate ambiance, this is one of the most flawless dining experiences I have had in a while. The wine list is one of the most impressive I have seen – whether you’re hosting a group or winding down the day solo, there is something for everyone. I’m very particular about the steakhouses I frequent, and I will 100% be a regular customer. If you’re in the Madison area (or even visiting), be sure to put Draper Brothers on your list – you will not be disappointed!
We showed up with no reservation and was offered bar seating. It was still just as nice and had excellent service from the bartender. We ordered the chicken and ravioli. They were both delicious! If you want something big and filling the chicken was more than enough and if you’re feeling something a little smaller and lighter the ravioli is great. Overall, a great dinner spot but just make sure to call to get a reservation or see if they have seating available.
