The perfect menu for first-timers at Eastern Dynasty—especially with three or four people—is to order family-style and share everything. This is the kind of place where the table becomes the experience. Start with the noodles. You can’t go wrong with the soy pan-fried noodles or the Singapore noodles—both are excellent and give you two very different but equally satisfying flavor profiles. The Kung Pao chicken is the clear winner across the board. It’s bold, balanced, and addictive. I highly recommend ordering an extra one to go for the next day—you will be dreaming about it. If you’re feeling a little daring and want something different, add the mapo tofu. It’s fascinating: not spicy-hot, but infused with numbing Sichuan peppercorns that create a playful, tingling sensation on your tongue. The texture is silky and comforting, almost reminiscent of egg drop soup in the best way. Finally, don’t skip the lobster ginger scallion noodle plate. It’s massive, almost decadent, and absolutely worth it. Rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying—perfect for sharing and ending the meal on a high note. Eastern Dynasty nails both classic favorites and adventurous dishes. It really is an impressive experience for the pallette.
We came here for lunch. 8 of us ordered 6 dishes to share. It was the perfect amount. For choice of three, i ordered BBQ pork, roast pork and roast dark. I really liked the roast pork. The house special pepper beef was great. The meat was very tender. Highly recommended. I also really liked the water spinach with garlic. The boiled spicy fish and pork chop were good but not as good as other dishes we ordered. The fried flat noodles with beef got good flavor but i preferred wider flat noodles. Overall, these Cantonese dishes are tasty for the area. It’s usually pretty busy so i would recommend make a reservation. The staff was friendly and i was able to order in Cantonese with them 😆
西湖牛肉羹 - Beef soup with cilantro. I HATE this soup but my wife loves it. Though I hate it, I've to admit they did an excellent job with the soup. The egg wash was done with perfect balance. The beef was cut perfectly. It's not minced. And flavor was good. 鹹魚雞粒炒飯粒炒 - Chinese anchovies chicken fried rice - This dish is how you can tell if they are traditional Cantonese style cuisine chef. It was well done. Not everyone like this dish because of the Chinese 燒肉燒鴨雙拼 - roast pork and roast duck combo - Impressive. The skin of the roast duck is crispy and the flavor was very good. It's legit! Roast pork was excellent at well. However, I prefer a more intense flavor. The skin was crunchy too. I'm delighted to find such good Cantonese cuisine in San Diego. I wish I've tried the beef chow fun and sweet and sour pork, that'll tell how good this place is.
Came here with friends for dinner and it was clearly a popular spot—we had to put our name down and waited about 30 minutes for a table. Totally worth it though! Once seated, service was good and pretty quick, even with how busy it was. Everything we ordered was solid, but the Peking Duck is the real standout and absolutely worth getting. It comes in two courses: first, the crispy duck meat and skin served with soft bao buns, then a second course of ground duck served with lettuce wraps. Both were delicious and full of flavor. If you’re planning a dinner out and don’t mind a bit of a wait, this place is definitely worth checking out—especially for the duck!
We came to Eastern Dynasty Restaurant for a weekday lunch and were surprised that the restaurant was not full at all. A year or two ago, people would have lined up for the restaurant to open to get in. Today was our luck day as there were plenty of parkings everywhere in the same plaza as Jeong Won BBQ & BonChon, etc. Normally, it’s a challenge to find parking. The waiter greeted us warmly and sat us down immediately and served us the free hot tea. Restaurant is small but clean with relaxing vibes. The dishes we ordered were salty fish & chicken tofu clay pot, pea pod leaves sautéed in garlic sauce and the deli BBQ combo of roast duck and roast pork belly served with the usual hoisin and the tangy plum dipping sauce. The tangy dipping plum sauce was “chef’s kiss” as it paired so well with the deli BBQ combo especially the roast duck. Food did not disappoint and it was not greasy or salty like a lot of Chinese dishes found in most restaurants here in San Diego. The only suggestion for improvement was for the salty fish & chicken tofu clay pot dish as the portion was on the smaller side and the taste was rather bland. It could have been better to include more ingredients to bring out the salty fish flavor for the dish. The pea pod leaves was cooked to perfection as the veggie retained the green freshness look and taste. The roast duck was moist with the familiar delicious crunchy skins. The roast pork belly was our favorite as the spices used took us way back when we were in Hong Kong. So good. The portions were on the smaller side and the restaurant charged $2 for one bowl of white rice, ouch! It’s a criminal act to charge for cooked rice in a Chinese restaurant. This is a solid Cantonese restaurant. Service was quick and waitstaff members were kind, friendly and the tea kept coming upon request; the waitstaff provided useful information to help us decide on which dishes to order. We enjoyed our meal at Eastern Dynasty and will definitely visit again to try other authentic Cantonese dishes.
