I’ve been going to this gym for 3 years now and this year has been the worst for climbing at Hangar 18 Orange. 1. Almost every weekday at around 6-7pm, there is a line that wraps around the building. I’ve waited 45mins to an hour just to get in. 2. The gym closes at 10 on weekdays. I understand that the employees are people and they want to go home. Usually they’d begin cleaning up, turning off the fans, closing the doors and telling climbers “Last climbs” around 9:45, which is reasonable. Last time I was there, they started this process at 9:30 by turning off the fans and making it crazy hot in the gym. The gym already has bad airflow and it smells like feet. Really feels like the workers just want to kick people out as quickly as they can. 3. Parking is not great either, due to the many people who go to this gym. It’s just not fun and management has done nothing to combat these issues. The routesetting is pretty neat, but having to wait to get into the gym and then having to wait to get onto the wall because of the amount of people is very disheartening and leave not only me, but so many other patrons bitter. Also the ping pong table…I’m sorry but it’s so unnecessary lol. It takes up so much rug space when people could be stretching, and there are players who are so into the game that they’ll bump into people who are trying to stretch. I hope the management at Hangar 18 can address these issues and make it more enjoyable for their patrons who come here for good climbs and community.
This is my favorite Hangar 18 location so far but the parking is rough. The gym itself has so many diverse climbs and they utilize their wall space really well unlike other locations. It is strictly bouldering with a workout space. There was a line out of the door because they were at max capacity at 6:30PM but we got in pretty quickly. I’ll definitely be back.
What a fun place!! Highly recommend this place especially if you are looking for a fun and easier way to get fit. It is awesome to find a workout gym suitable for a family! Thank you for hosting OC Academy for our spring break activity! Everyone had a blast
Large gym but also many people despite the non-peak time. They only have bouldering in the location. No belay. A few other things to do other than climbing (table tennis, board game, etc). Desk staffs are more attentive than most Hangar locations I’ve been to. Most parking spaces are next door or a few blocks away. They building didn’t have a lot of spaces.
Bouldering gym only — They used a color tag system for grading, which kept me curious and trying a lot of different problems coming from a different gym. Lots of overhang walls, one slab section next to the training/weights area. The open space is cool and I definitely appreciated all the seating to rest in between attempts. To what other people have said about parking, there isn’t a lot. I was there late afternoon on a Monday before the post-work/evening rush and the lot was already full.
