I requested a quote for a very straightforward residential sauna installation: a 9kW outdoor sauna heater, existing sub-panel, ~15 feet of conduit, no trenching, no panel upgrade. I was quoted $2,400 and told that 3-inch conduit was required. After consulting multiple licensed electricians and reviewing NEC / Florida Building Code requirements, this recommendation was not justified for a single 50-amp residential branch circuit. Standard 1-inch Schedule 40 PVC is code-compliant for this application. The scope and conduit size appeared to be significantly oversized, which inflated the quote well beyond reasonable market rates for Hillsborough County. Other licensed electricians quoted the same job hundreds less using proper, code-appropriate materials. If you’re seeking estimates, I strongly recommend getting multiple opinions and asking for itemized explanations of why specific materials are being specified. EDIT (after company response): After posting this review, the company responded with an unprofessional and accusatory message rather than addressing the technical concerns raised. The follow-up communication included incorrect assumptions about other bids and escalated unnecessarily after I declined the quote and asked reasonable questions about scope and code compliance. The issue was never simply price — it was clarity, consistency, and justification of the specifications provided. Homeowners should be able to ask technical questions, compare licensed bids, and decline an estimate without hostility. EDIT 2 (after company response): After I declined the quote and asked basic questions about scope and code compliance, the company chose to escalate further publicly with remarks like “Guess I hit a nerve…” rather than responding professionally. Regardless of pricing, this confirms my original concern: the issue here is not simply cost — it’s the lack of clarity and the tone used toward customers who ask reasonable questions or choose not to move forward. Homeowners should be able to request itemized justification, compare licensed bids, and decline an estimate without being insulted or placed on a “do not service” list.
We had the electrician’s Mike Thorpe, Nelson Caro and apprentice Myco out October 20, 2025. They replaced electric panel and wiring because we needed an upgrade from our insurance. They all were very knowledgeable, professional and personable! We are very happy with the job that they all did and would recommend them to family and friends!! The ladies we spoke to making the appointment were very friendly and answered our questions!
My experience with Hoffman Electrical & A/C was great! The customer service over the phone was very friendly and my electrician showed up on time. Our electrician, Hector, was very cordial and knowledgeable. He successfully resolved our electrical issue and was able to give us a few future pointers. Thank you, Hoffman Electrical & A/C. I surely hope we don’t have another electrical issue around our house for quite some time; but if/when we do, I will definitely be contacting Hoffman Electrical & A/C.
Hoffman Electrical installed my AC unit 4/8/24, I was gifted the 1st one year maintenance plan with my install, however when I tried to schedule a maintenance followup I was told it had expired (they do not call customers to set up maintenance appointments) and I would have to pay for another year to get a maintenance visit. So I did enroll in another plan. I was told by the appointment setter that the visit would be $67.50 - after the tech confirmed the clogged drain line and quoted me a $300 service fee and an additional $150 for a “chemical treatment” to correct the problem, I declined the service because it was so expensive. The tech said I still had to pay over $300 for the diagnostic fee when I specifically asked the appointment setter if there would be any other fees other than the $67.50 unless I agreed to the actual work, I was told no. The appointment setter specifically said NO ADDITIONAL fees unless I had WORK DONE. The HVAC tech proceeded to demand a $300 diagnostic fee when I specifically asked if they will be charges beyond the $67.50 for the technician to look at my system . I was very clear and asked this several times and was told each and every time there would be no other charges unless I had work done, I literally cannot stress this enough. This place is a HUGE rip off, they are shady with how they charge and are very unclear on how the charges are assessed. If they are going to charge a $300 plus diagnostic fee then they should state that at the time the appointment is set not wait until after the service person has looked at the system. Beware: The $67.50 is only to get the service person to your house, their manager Steve said the call center people are told SPECIFICALLY not to talk about prices. Steve told me he WOULD NOT honor the warranty work and put me on a do not service list. My brand new thermostat with their name on it has no power so the unit will not work.
Kody was Exceptional. He listened. Never pushed anything other than answer questions. He showed extreme patience as well as. I had a lot of questions. He completed the first of many more to come ass I enhance my home.
