Great place. If you want to feel as high class as possible and taste a 55 day dry aged bone in 20. Oz ribeye, this is your place. I like the staff and the environment. This is your old world steakhouse and believe me the decor will absolute remind you that this isn't a Texas RoadHouse (also fun, but different strokes for different folks). The lighting is dim, there is a coat check and the furniture and bar all hold a regal feel (Think prohibition era vibes). The staff is friendly, the drinks are strong, the food is tasty, sides are for the table, mushrooms dont come with onions or vice versa so order both and share with folks. (My steak looked and tasted as if I found a patch of mushrooms with my slab of cow - 😀) the food is seasoned, no need for extra salt or pepper. If it's soup, go French onion. I had the lobster bisque and tbh I've had better, and when you have that expectation of the best you've had, its hard to match it. Overall I give this place top marks! Staff food and atmosphere are on par as one of.the best places for dinner in Madison in my opinion.
I came in to give this a whirl since I was staying at a hotel nearby. Definitely a great restaurant that you should consider dining at if you are able. To start I ordered the calamari which was excellent. The calamari has a very nice and light sweet chili glaze on it so there is no need for additional dipping sauce. I am accustomed to adding sauce but there was really no red with the way this is prepared. For my meal I ordered the 8oz Fillet which comes with a choice of potato - I chose the garlic mash. Also added on some scallops to the dish. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. The scallops were excellent and flavorful. Some of the best I have had so definitely worth adding them to the meal. For dessert I ordered the warm apple crisp. Since I was eating alone I asked for them to serve me a smaller portion so as not to waste any and it came out exactly as ordered. Very tasty. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with a date night feel. I’m pretty sure I was the only one sitting alone but if you are solo - don’t let that stop you from having a great meal.
An interesting experience to say the least. I’ve been let down by Food Fight before but never at such a high cost. If you are a high class establishment your food should be prepared as such. To start, we didn’t get our drinks until 30ish minutes after the order was placed. I would avoid the pear martini, it has such a strong artificial pear taste that makes your mouth pucker. I do want to note that it was a busy Saturday night and we were a group of 8. So this could be overlooked. Complimentary bread is a part of their service, but we did not receive a basket until sitting for 45 minutes. It took over an hour for our main courses to come out. I’m wondering if this is standard? I know it was busy but that seems like a little long to wait. Especially for the bread. What really left a bad taste in my mouth was the food. My partner and I both ordered the Manhattan Surf and Turf, without enhancements. That dish comes out to $68. What I don’t understand is how the same dish can come out so different. I ordered my steak rare, but it came out more cooked than his medium rare. It was tough and not juicy at all. The seasoning ratio was completely different! His was nicely seasoned with a good crust on the outside. Mine completely lacked flavor and did not have the char. This absence of uniform does not reflect well on the restaurant. I don’t really eat scallops or foie gras, so I can’t tell you if they were as expected or not. I enjoyed the unique flavor of both, the scallops were not rubbery. I just can’t believe the steak was the big letdown! Additionally, another member of my party ordered a strip. His steak arrived overcooked, he sent it back. At the end of the night he did not take his leftovers home, I believe he was very underwhelmed. They did comp his meal which was a nice gesture. He got the mushroom enhancement with his steak, which was literally just mushrooms. They were not buttery or flavorful, just there. The crème brûlée was good, very creamy rich custard. I think the sugar crust was a little too thick, it made the overall dish a bit too sweet. Some of this can be chalked up to personal preference. I really don’t accept that a high end steakhouse struggles so much to serve steak. The service was decent enough, they checked on us plenty throughout the night. But the host did lose our coat check number right after we handed it to her. In the end our group ultimately decided we would not be returning. For the price, it should be an immaculate experience. Instead we were given something to gossip about, disappointing food. I’m not sure if Food Fight is going downhill but the last few times I’ve dined with them it has been utterly lackluster. Johnny Delmonicos Steakhouse, please work on your steak.
We had a wonderful dinner at Johnny Delmonico’s Steakhouse! They started us off with fresh, warm bread (of a bit plain) that was absolutely delicious. For an appetizer, we shared the mac and cheese; rich, creamy, and comforting. I ordered a glass of wine that I loved (Orin Swift) and my partner had the old fashioned. While he enjoyed it, it wasn’t quite a traditional old fashioned; it reminded him a bit of soda; but still good overall. For our entrées, my partner ordered the 14 oz dry-aged New York strip with no enhancements and loved it. The char crust and tenderness were perfect. I ordered the filet with truffle butter, and it was amazing; the char added just the right touch. The garlic potatoes were wonderful with a beautiful ribbon look, though we wished they had a bit more garlic flavor and maybe a sprinkle of green onions or chives to finish them off. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and I especially loved the bookshelves; it added such charm. The only thing that took away from that cozy vibe was the TV at the bar, which felt a little out of place for such an elegant setting. Otherwise, the service was excellent—very attentive—and they even bag up your leftovers for you. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with amazing steaks, warm ambiance, and thoughtful service.
We had a great meal and enjoyed the evening. Martinis were perfect! My wife had the beef tartare and the coffee crusted salmon and loved both. I think she will be back for the tartare for her dinner on my next business trip. I had the French onion soup....yum....and the Caesar salad with tenderloin on top. One of my favorites. Love the dressing and the beef is always so incredibly tender. The true delight of our evening was Amanda S though, knowledgeable, personable and so professional. She was wonderful too. See you soon!
