Came here for taco Tuesday as soon on their happy hour menu and I was so impressed! The food was incredible, server was very friendly and helpful, and the place is clean and comfortable. Tried 5 tacos and as someone who is a fairly big eater, I was full even though they were "considered small". Can't wait to come back. I ordered the pastor, steak, cheeseburger and chorizo tacos and was thoroughly impressed. Altogether with a pitcher of beer (shared) my meal was under 25.
My wife and I literally stumbled across La Casita last night, after the hockey game, and walked in with zero expectations. Juan-Carlos met us at the door and offered us a table right away...several other groups and couples were already seated. We got water and menus immediately, and figured it was necessary to try the margaritas. We had the "plain" variety, and they turned out to be large and fabulous...sufficiently so that I had a second one to confirm my first impression! Since it was late, and I'd made the regrettable decision to have a foot-long hotdog at the Canucks game, we went straight to the mains. Tracy had the "Combination #2", which consists of tortilla soup, two potato onion flautas, and salad. I was going to have the chicken mole enchiladas, but Juan-Carlos steered me to the Chicken Mole in the "Specialties" section of the menu, which turned out to be a great call! Our food arrived really quickly...like, "five minutes" quickly, and the size of my plate made me fear immediately that I had bitten off more than I could chew. Tracy raved about the soup and flautas...she said it was the first time she'd ever had tortilla soup that she didn't have to "doctor up" with salt and other seasonings...it was perfect. She let me sample a bit of the soup and the flautas; they were both quite amazing. I run out of words to describe how good the chicken mole was! It comes on a bed of rice, accompanied by refried beans and guacamole, and it was just freaking heavenly. I did my very best, but I couldn't quite finish everything. Juan-Carlos was a great host, and brought us a container with some extra rice, and a detailed description of how to combine the leftovers with eggs to make a great breakfast. Our entire experience at La Casita was outstanding, and we'll definitely be back!
La Casita in Gastown offers a lively atmosphere and flavourful Mexican food. We tried the chipotle prawns, wings, and quesabirrias the chipotle prawns were fab, the wings were good, and the quesabirrias were great with rich, satisfying flavours. A fun spot for casual dining if you’re craving good Mexican food in Vancouver.
Decent cocktails. Pretty good Mexican food, very mild spices, but tasty. Friendly attentive server, not too intrusive. This place has nothing wrong with it but nothing special either. We love Mexico and it's people and part of why we love it is the enthusiasm and loco joyful charisma. This place, while nice, had very mild everything.
My friend and I came here not expecting much. We were in the area and wanted to explore. Upon entering it was a very loud crowd. The energy is high and seating was limited since it was a weekend night. Our server recommends the bar, which is fine. Our bartender was extremely friendly and gave recommendations. Let me tell ya, the margaritas are insanely HUGE here. It's the size of your head! My Mexican friend had told me it's true, the margaritas are huge and the drinks specials are fantastic! We ordered the fish tacos, and the Mexican vegan dish. The fish tacos were wonderful and the vegan Mexican dish was delicious. Our food literally came to us in 5 mins. That is fast ! As soon as we ordered I went to the washroom, came back out and my food was ready lol. Hey no complaints! I was starving 🤣 This place is a great place to socialize over drinks and food. Food is tasty. Would I come back? Yes of course, for the same dishes, and perhaps the nachos. The only downside was that the neighbourhood can be sketchy so just be careful at night. It didn’t discourage us from trying something new of course.
