I’m never disappointed when I visit this taco truck. The homemade corn tortillas are fresh and soft, and the savory, well-seasoned meats are full of flavor. The hot sauce actually brings real heat, which is a big win for anyone who loves spicy Mexican food. The only downsides are parking, which can be a real challenge, and the fact that seating is outdoors since it’s a food truck—tough on colder days. Still, if you’re searching for authentic street tacos, taco trucks near me, or great late-night Mexican food, this spot is absolutely worth it.
Went here on a colleague’s recommendation. One of the better Mexican places in downtown San Jose. Their corn tortillas elevates everything. I really liked their al pastor - flavorful.
I wish we ordered more! Stopped by for a post-climbing snack to share, it was pretty close to closing when we got there. We passed by on our way to the gym and were so excited by the smell we knew that we had to grab a bite after. We ordered one Al Pastor Mulita ($9) & one Auga Fresca (I believe it was ~$5)! They had horchata and pineapple for the self-serve drink options. We got the Pineapple, it was a bit sweet since it was close to the bottom of the pitcher, but once the ice melted down, it was perfect. Additional refills do cost extra, but totally worth it for the size of the cup they give! The mulita came out in less than 5 minutes and it was piping hot, oozing with cheese, and you get as much grilled onions and peppers as you want on the side. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the tortillas are homemade. I could honestly eat the tortillas on its own! The al pastor itself was very tender & well seasoned. I really enjoyed the amount of pineapple chunks they mixed into the quesadilla! The caramelized onions on the side were sweet and still had a slight crunch to them. There are also several homemade salsa bottles on the tables. We tried two different ones, which I unfortunately can’t recall which ones, but both were refreshing & not too spicy. It was the perfect compliment for the mulita! The staff was so kind— even while they were closing up and cleaning up, they still let us use their dining area. They also gave us a free refill of aguas frescas because it was going to be tossed after they closed anyways! As I’m looking back at pictures of the mulita now, I’m still surprised by the sheer size of it! I’ll definitely be back to try some of their other items, I’m very excited to try their Sope some time.
I suggest rethinking your plans to eat here. I ordered the Taco Estilo Tijuana specifically because it said it came with avocado. But No avocado anywhere. When I asked, the response was literally, “Oh, do you want avocado?” Yes… yes, I do. That’s why I ordered it. 🙃 They took it back, slapped some avocado purée on it. Only the remaining three-quarters of my taco got the avocado purée upgrade. Look, mistakes happen. But when the reaction makes you question whether anything you ordered is correct, that’s a whole different issue. Disappointing.
We’re from the central valley visiting for the weekend, we were staying close by so we decided to give this spot a try, it did not disappoint, we had the burritos de asada, tacos of chorizo and carnitas with homemade tortillas. My husband had to go back and get another taco. I’m picky with Mexican food, and this is a must have if you’re down town San Jose. After we took a small walk around and all all these art murals
