If you’re looking for a vibrant atmosphere in San Jose, Luna Mexican Kitchen (The Alameda) definitely delivers on style and freshness. The first thing you notice is the open kitchen where they hand-press tortillas, which sets a high bar for the meal. The interior is beautiful and upscale, making it a great spot for a date or a lively dinner with friends, though it can get quite loud during peak hours. Since I didn’t opt for one of their signature mixed grills this time, I focused on the smaller plates and traditional entrees. The quality of the ingredients is undeniable; you can tell they prioritize organic and locally sourced items. The salsa has a great kick, and the handmade tortillas are easily the highlight of the meal—thick, warm, and flavorful enough to eat on their own. As for the main dishes, the flavors are clean and well-executed, though the pricing is definitely on the higher end for Mexican cuisine in San Jose. While the enchiladas and tacos were tasty, the portions felt a bit modest compared to the bill. It’s clear you are paying a premium for the "farm-to-table" philosophy and the prime location rather than just a massive plate of food. Overall, Luna is a solid choice if you value ambiance and ingredient integrity over a bargain. The service was attentive, and the drinks—specifically the margaritas—were balanced and fresh. I’d return to try more of the menu, but it feels more like a "special occasion" spot than a casual neighborhood haunt.
This place is amazing, the food is delicious everyone there is a blessing. They are all so nice and helpful not just the servers but eveyone that is there working. They worl together to make great food, clean place to eat, a welcoming atmosphere. The guacamole is out of this world, the food in general is amazing, the drinks are very good too! Can't forget dessert either or that Mexican Hot Chocolate!
Came here since everyone was recommending or raving about this place. Unfortunately food is mid at best. The flavors doesnt seem like it has enough seasoning or bland, the sauces sucks and are way to watered down. I will say that the food is fresh though. Their chips, shrimp tacos were decent, but the star of the show was the horchata french toast, soft, fluffy with a light crunch and not too sweet, very tasty. Me and my cousins got the carnitas burrito, carne asada burito, the chicken soup, the steak bowl and shrimp tacos. Only thing on the menu that made me actually want to come back was the horchata french toast which exceeded my expectations. Other than that, its ok, do not recommend unless you just want to try. Prices were pretty expensive too.
Come on now LUNA might be one of the best Mexican resturants we have had in years. Being raised around a Hispanic family in Kansas City Missouri I was pleasantly surprised when I found LUNA on the Michelin Guide for San Jose. It can't be common to see a Michelin Mexican resturant so we had to try it! We were visiting San Jose for ten days for the NWSL Championship and my birthday over Thanksgiving. LUNA did not disappoint, we were seated relatively quickly (don't go during busy hours and expect to be seated quickly). The staff was soooo friendly and helped us find dishes that fit our dietary requirements (dairy free cashew cheese sauce baby). The drinks, the soup, the appetizers (unlike any other Hispanic resturant), the mains and even the dessert were to die for. LUNA rocked it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a wonderful family dinner at Luna Mexican Kitchen. The food was amazing. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, especially the grilled platter, salmon tostada, and elote. The atmosphere was warm and lively, perfect for spending time with family. What made the evening truly special was the staff. I lost my ring right before we left, and they found it and made sure it got back to me. Their honesty and kindness meant so much and made the night unforgettable. A beautiful place with delicious food and genuinely caring people. Highly recommend it for any family gathering or celebration.
