The Downtown club has everything I needed to start my fitness journey. I have always struggled feeling welcome inside a gym but the team at Merritt Clubs have made me feel like a family. I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without the support of the personal training team. Gracie has not only kept me accountable but has made coming to the gym so fun and I am grateful for all the classes offered. This is more than a gym this is a community that you should join!
I moved to Baltimore about a year ago and was looking for a gym close by, I went to Merritt & was immediately welcomed and greeted by Shannon, one of the many warm & energetic employees of Merritt. Signed up right then and there due to the welcoming energy, and wide variety & layout of the gym. Throughout my year at Merritt - *all* the staff, but especially Barry, Shannon, Jeremy & the GM Tammy were always so welcoming, helpful, happy to see me, & lots of laughs had! I always leave more uplifted, energetic and out of breath than when I walked in. I would recommend this gym & membership to anyone living downtown Baltimore! Thank you Merritt & team!
It was a very straight forward and simple process to sign up. I was sold on the amenities such as the pool and sauna and all the workout equipment right away just doing the research but was extremely surprised to find that I was even more interested once I seen all the other options and opportunities that are presented through this Fitness Club. I had an extremely productive day with not only a good workout and a soak in the Jacuzzi but came back for a excellent Boxing class that pushed me and my limits the entire time in the best way possible. 10/10
Update: In response to the owner comment: this is incorrect- Tammy has never picked up the phone to speak with me, not even a voice message. She sent me a response, today, 12/15/25- at 11:39 am.... After my review. My review and my cancellation is now considerate of the inscenrity. Please don't try and save face with lies. The tone is still what it is. ____________________________________________ Disappointing. I joined in February of 2021 at the Canton location- it was okay, but very overpriced and often too crowded to enjoy a workout or get in the rooftop pool. On top of that the price kept climbing by each year- I left at $126/month.... So I opted to switch my membership to the downtown location as of March of this year- the front desk staff was hit or miss: some really kind, others rude or too distracted talking or on their phone. If you go after 5 pm on a weekday that's where you'll encounter disappointing staff. This gym wasn't very clean- the locker room felt like it was very old and dark- and many of the rooms were the same: isolated, dirty walls, overall uninspiring. I chose to cancel my membership this month, just shy of 5 -years, after being tired of poor management after I sought help when being verbally assaulted by some guy in the gym and the staff didn't do anything about it or properly address it- even one of the instructors sat and watched- might have been her friend, not sure but she was having a pretty ignorant conversation around politics with him and another guy very loudly in the studio over 20 minutes after the class. Either way it feels unsafe in this gym, and the staff doesn't know how to handle it and sends you to email the general manager, Tammy, who is equally as useless. I wrote her, she didn't respond until I checked in after my intiatial email wasn't responded to, then she responded some generic corporate BS, and then never responded again. Worse, when I called and discussed cancellation, they confirmed it over the phone, only for me to find out from visiting the Towson location that it had not been processed. Overall the Baltimore experience in these gyms sucks- it's overpriced for a poor atmosphere and management. Save your money and go elsewhere.... ask members what happened at the Canton location after the storm left it unusable. This company has crappy corporate ethics.
I will say right away that I went to this gym both with my employer paying for the access and also a reduced rate because of being in town only for a short while: That said, even still I found it overly expensive. $100/month for something another cheaper gym couldn’t provide? The facilities were clean but dated and everything felt old and from the 90s. Staff was a mix. Some very friendly - some couldn’t be bothered with even being asked for kills jump rope. Men’s locker room always an issue with sauna. People going in endlessly on their phones, fully clothed, street shoes - all pretty disgusting.
