Miller + Baker is a wonderful local café located on Lake Street/Newcastle Street in Perth, and it truly feels like a place where the neighbourhood comes together. Rather than a busy tourist spot, it has the relaxed, authentic atmosphere of a café loved by locals—people chatting over coffee, regulars stopping by for their usual, and a calm rhythm that instantly puts you at ease. The outdoor seating along Lake Street is perfect for enjoying the Perth sunshine while watching everyday local life pass by. Inside, the space is bright and welcoming, filled with natural light, greenery, and a thoughtfully designed interior that reflects the care put into everything they do. The coffee is excellent—smooth, well-balanced, and consistently high quality, finished with beautiful latte art. The pastries are equally impressive. Flaky, buttery, and expertly baked, they feel indulgent yet refined. The custard-filled pastry is a standout: golden and crisp on the outside, with a rich, silky filling that’s satisfying without being too heavy. Their clear commitment to sustainability, including composting and eco-conscious practices, adds another layer of respect and authenticity to the experience. Great cardamom pastry and coffee. Service friendly and quick. Coffee was extra hot, as requested. My mate and I managed to score a little table outside, but there are not a lot and the place is busy. Fortunately there are a couple of small tables alongside the neighbouring cafe which also belong to Miller & Baker, a fortunate find! An alternative would be to grab takeaway and head for one of the nearby parks. Parking in Lake St tends to be in short supply, so may require a quick walk, or arrive on a bike, like my mate and I. We’ll be going back to try some other treats, thanks guys!
I would say Miller + Baker is one of our perth trip highlights. Woke up early to try this well praised cafe in the cbd and our 30 min walk was so well worth it! Freshly milled flour hits different 👏 I had the poached chicken sandwich (8/10) while my husband had the egg + bacon (11/10). Also bought their choc chip cookie, pistachio rubharb, and pain au chocolat for some munchies during our ferry ride to rottnest. They also have an in house store selling local produce. If only I had the time to try everything 🥲 Definitely going back here 💜
Such a gorgeous community cafe/bakery, I was so impressed with the fact they mill the flour from scratch. The most delicious, fresh pastries and coffee accompanied with the loveliest staff who make you feel so welcome in Perth! I especially loved their signature cardamon bun!
We found ourselves at Miller + Baker on a busy morning and had to wait in line to get in — always a good sign when people are willing to queue. The café sits in a great spot, but seating is limited: a handful of tables outside and only a few inside, which makes it feel quite tight. The vibe though is buzzing and energetic, definitely adds to the experience. Service was decent, nothing over the top but smooth enough to keep things moving. What we tried: • Rainbow Sandwich – decent, but the focaccia got chewy pretty quickly and overall lacked flavour. 3/5 • Orange & Fennel Bun – again, decent, but nothing that really stood out. 3/5 • Iced Latte – slightly off balance, leaning a bit too bitter. 3/5 • Iced Mocha – fell flat with no sweetness to lift it. 2.5/5 Overall, I’d say Miller + Baker is worth a visit for the energy and atmosphere, but the food and coffee didn’t wow me this time. 3/5
