The Niche Pilates certification was absolutely wonderful! This step by step approach with comprehensive cuing and sequencing formula made learning so much fun and stress free! All the instructors are so knowledgable, friendly, and clearly are so passionate about pilates!!! 10/10 recommend!
Last summer, a sports med doctor specifically recommended Pilates to help with hyper mobile joint issues and chronic pain. I’ve done strength training and various types of yoga for years, so I was skeptical that Pilates could really be that different. After trying a couple of classes at Niche, I was shocked at the improvement in my hip pain. I started doing 1-2 classes/week and have had a big difference in daily pain and overall stability. The move sequences in the classes are so thoughtfully designed - they’re like magic. For me, 3 months of Pilates has been more effective (and less expensive) than focused physical therapy. The instructors are well educated and are great at explaining how each move should feel, how it’s beneficial, and how certain modifications may be preferable. The whole Niche staff is lovely. Along with the small class sizes and the calming aesthetics, the staff makes this studio feel welcoming, safe, and personal. Niche is a place of actual healing and learning, and I’m so glad I found it.
I am writing to comment on Karen Roodman and on Pilates as an essential exercise routine. Karen is amazing, she is so well trained and so good at diagnosis and intervention. She's such an astute trainer and so knowledgeable in Pilates. And she's an amazingly caring person. I know when I walk in the door twice a week I have a friend there who truly wants me to feel better and to function more effectively in my mechanical activities. I love coming to see her! And Pilates is an essential element of my exercise routine. It balances the core, cardio and strength exercise exercises that I do three times a week. I don't see how you can separate these two approaches to exercise. The strength and cardio exercises also tend to tighten me up and restrict my movement. Pilates gives not only immediate benefit in mobility and flexibility, but it has had long-term cumulative benefits. I walk better, I don't hurt anymore and I can engage in more extreme adventures because Pilates has helped me to move like a person who is much younger. I urge you to consider integrating, both approaches to exercise, Pilates, and core, strength and cardio. The cumulative benefit of both is to give you much more mobility, flexibility, and body health.
I’ve been a member at Niche for about 1.5 years, and it’s made me fall in love with Pilates. The studio is spacious, beautiful, and always clean. I mainly take reformer classes, but their tower and mat classes are fantastic as well. The instructors are friendly, deeply knowledgeable about the body and Pilates, and consistently deliver challenging yet fun flows that keep me coming back.
I LOVE this place. It’s tastefully decorated and the feng shui of how everything is set up is unmatched!! The instructors are all perfectly trained, I feel challenged every class! I’ve been to many Pilates studios and Niche is by far the best not only in Richmond but along the east coast. Been a member since July and started seeing a positive difference in my body by September! Can’t go wrong with taking a class here.
