Anniversary dinner at Nobu LA- it was our 1st time at a Nobu and we tried all the classic dishes, from black cod miso to spicy tuna crispy and the bread pudding. Everything was amazing - from the service to the food.
Highlights: - Wagyu beef tacos: amazing soft texture, big beefy flavours, a fantastic bite of food - White truffle steak: Cooked beautifully with the fried flowered onion on top, a perfect pairing Good: - Miso black cod: very flaky, beautiful to eat. It’s just not something special anymore, many restaurants are now serving this dish to the same or similar quality. Would be great to see some innovation here. - I enjoyed the fried chilli’s, nice appetisers, good hint of spice paired with the sweetness of the sauce. Overall: Good environment, good food, great service. Overall I just feel Nobu is lacking that ‘oomph’ that makes it stand out. The white truffle steak is holding its ground, for the moment. Still, a good place to take friends or a date.
Thank you to Josh for steering me in the right direction and your recommendations! This was a nice treat. Enjoyed my experience and being taken care of by someone with experience and knowledge of the menu. Tried hamachi, toro, albacore and lobster tacos. For a large restaurant, attention was personalized and warm hospitality.
Nobu LA’s Tanoshi Hour is a great way to enjoy the Nobu experience without the full splurge. The cocktails and small bites — like the crispy rice with spicy tuna and yellowtail jalapeño — are top-notch, and the vibe is relaxed but still upscale. Portions are small and prices still lean high, but it’s a fun, classy spot to unwind before dinner.
I got the $175 omakase 7 courses and oh my goodness, I wasn't expecting full plates here. We start with a vegetable wrap which doesn't count as a course. 1st was salmon tartar, oyster in some delightful sauce and Japanese pear. The pear was amazingly sweet. 2nd was various nigori, uchi with roe and rice. 3rd was various white fish, but the center was my favorite, blue fin toro with truffle shavings and I believe it was a spicy ponzu sauce (don't quote me on this), but it was the best thing I tasted at course 3. Course 4 came with a watercress salad, i don't remember what fish it was because I was starting to hit a wall and I still have 3 more left. 5th course was miso cod and the filet was a decent size, that's one of those long plates they put rolls on, so don't let the close up fool you. 6th was delightful, A5 wagyu in truffle butter and Crispy onion! They server left me along for like 20 mins so I can get through this course lol I was like, I might take this home. Then as I sat and digested, I was like, it's too good. 7th course was miso soup, i didn't finish it but it was refreshing. The dessert, it was a flakley brownie with matcha ice cream. The drinks were about $23 each and it was ok, it was a speciality cocktail and one that wasn't on the menu. Overall I've never had an omakase like this before. It was well worth the price in my opinion.
