I visited this historic house, and I loved the tour. Visit during Christmas, if you haven't already visited, you'll be surprised by this house, its architecture and furnishings, which, like everything else, are still in good condition. And you can visualize what Wisconsin Avenue looked like in those years.
Visited for Christmas, for a picture with Santa, and to check out the decorations. I must admit, the place is intriguing. Huge mansion, and pretty well kept, for its age. I do think that the Santa attraction could have been a bit better, though. All in all, if you're around, and like that type of thing, it's something interesting to do!
This should be a must place to visit for anyone interested in history, especially Milwaukee history. I visited during the Christmas season and it was beautiful. This mansion is an icon of Milwaukee like the Mitchell Park Domes or Leon's. The docents are excellent. I took a couple hundred pictures while visiting and asked a lot of questions. All my questions were easily answered by the knowledgeable docents in staff. I would caution bringing children under the age of 14 due to the historical nature of the mansion. During my visit, I saw several young children touching things that should not have been touched. Teachers could easily align state standards for a field trip experience.
A great tour and lovely slice of Milwaukee history. We very much enjoyed the mimosa morning tour. The mansion is absolutely gorgeous. We happened to be in town after Thanksgiving so the mansion was decorated for Christmas. Absolutely gorgeous and festive. The guided tour was filled with fun facts. They have a good balance of original items and period correct pieces. They were able to point these things out and include stories. Things to note: meeting for the tour happens in the building next door then you go over to the mansion. There's 3 stories of stairs and not too many places to sit if needed.
Beautiful Historic Home The Pabst Mansion offers a rich, well-paced glimpse into Milwaukee’s past. An informative short film sets the context around Captain Frederick Pabst, his family, and the brewing-era prosperity that shaped the house. We opted for the self-guided tour, which lets you move at your own speed through elegantly restored rooms, period furnishings, and thoughtful exhibits. The mansion is in very good condition; note that the exterior façade is currently under renovation, but it doesn’t detract from the experience. Built in 1892 for the Pabst family, the residence later served as the Archbishop’s home before being preserved and opened as a museum in the late 1970s. The blend of architecture, social history, and careful restoration makes this an engaging stop — plan about an hour to enjoy the film, explore the interiors, and appreciate the craftsmanship.
