The service at the gift shop near the Capitol was appalling. I bought two refrigerator magnets costing $2.50 each, and when I politely asked for a paper bag or even just a napkin, the staff member outright refused, implying that I hadn’t spent enough money to deserve it. To make matters worse, I was told that if I said another word, security would be called to escort me out. This behavior is utterly unreasonable and completely unacceptable.
OUTRAGEOUS, nothing with the Australian Flag on it ... this is the souvenir shop in Australias FEDERAL Parliament House And the only thing they have with the AUSTRALIAN FLAG on it is a pin the size of a 5c coin!! Yet they have dot painted crap all over the shop. Sure Aboriginals are Australians and they should have many items there.. But thousands of visitors from other countries come and that is very disrespectful to our Country to not have the actual flag represented ..or all the parliament items in the shop have no flags or emblems of the Australian parliament on them ..it's outrageous .. everyone who visits should challenge the clearly anti monarch approach to this souvenir shop representing our great country ... No other parliament in the world would do that !
What a wonderful surprise! I placed an order for my daughters birthday and the lovely people at the Parliament Shop wrapped everything up so beautifully and with such care. It was really appreciated and the highlight of my daughters day. The postcard with Happy birthday on it was the icing on the cake! So thank you so very, very much for your care and thought that went into packing my daughters gift. It is very rare these days to find this type of service where the customer is still made to feel special. 11/10 for the staff at Parliament Store and Many Thanks once again.
I was surprised at the great gift shop inside Parliament House. Extensive range of Australian made gifts, souvenirs, jewellery, home wares etc. plus locally made products. Also political themed gifts and books on Prime Ministers and Australian history. I found their prices very reasonable and if you do a paid tour of Parliament House you get a discount. **Edit. On my return visit in early 2023 I was excited to visit the gift shop once again, but since my last visit, 4 years ago, the shop has had a substantial refit. It is quite stark and modern now and has a very different to the feel of the rest of the building. It did not feel welcoming. Worse still was that the range of gifts is nowhere near as good as before, with a lot of very 'arty' items, not at all what I was expecting. The price range was also a lot higher than on my previous visit. I left without making a purchase. Very disappointed.
