We love Perry’s and since the Domain location opened we go there as it’s more central. Last week we went downtown as it was the first time at Perry’s for our friend and this is a lovely location. The food was great, but our server, G…., was a problem. He insisted that the Prime Rib special wasn’t available, though it was listed and eventually he agreed when he finally looked at the menu. AND he also insisted that the lunch special Pork Chop on the lunch menu included soup/salad and dessert. We told him that this isn’t how it had ever worked and he pointed to a section of the menu. The menu did explain the lunch offering with mashed potatoes and apple sauce, but it said nothing about soup/salad and dessert being included. Again, I remarked saying that the lunch menu doesn’t say that, however he insisted, and three of us ordered lunch specials, with, you guessed it - soup and dessert. When the check came they were charged separately for each item and had not yet been given dessert. Of course we pointed this issue out as the difference almost doubled our food bill and he said “I just wanted you to have the full dining experience.” 🤷♀️ We asked for the manager but our server replied that he would fix it. We would have talked to the manager on our way out, as our experience was bad all around, but fortunately Andy, the manager, came by to work out the check. He then explained to us how the lunch menu works. We explained that our waiter had insisted soup/salad and dessert were included multiple times and that we tried to explain this to him earlier. Andy corrected the charge. Dessert arrived. The entire experience with our waiter was odd. He clearly has a dark, wry humor but he made some oddly pointed comments - “… is that the face you want” for photos and “… it shouldn’t be that hard” when we didn’t respond quickly enough on a question he asked. We asked twice for a replacement napkin and he asked if paper would be better, but than never brought the napkin and we got up and got one ourselves. When asked if he could take a photo when he was not too busy he replied under breath that he was too busy but then took the phone/camera out of the hands of the hostess when we finally asked someone else for photos. (It was 4:30 on a Friday afternoon.) He never asked if we wanted coffees, or if others wanted dessert. This is just a few quips- there was more. We were 5 people with three lunch specials, two regular items and 2 expensive cocktails each. We are in our mid-60s and maybe he was confusing the Friday Prime Rib Lunch with the Senior Lunch? We were polite, friendly, ordered in a timely manner and are nice people. We were really surprised by all of this. We tipped, to not hurt the rest of the team, but certainly not the 25% would have likely tipped. Long story short- make sure you understand the lunch specials as well as the other specials for seniors and military, in case your server doesn’t. Check your bill. We enjoyed the food and drinks and have this lunch special up in the Domain location every month. I think the issue was our server and not Perry’s and I assume he will get the training he needs. I am Happy to talk with Perrys on this.
Rough all Around. Started off with me wanting to take my mother in law to a nice dining experience since she wanted to go to the cheese cake factory at first, I figured we’ll take her here to really wow her. That was a mistake. We come in, get seated, got handed 2 menus without inverts for dinner menus. About 5 minutes later we figure that out, still no waiter. We sit another 10 minutes before a grumpy waiter that said “I can’t see that you have to read the menu to me” we ask for water with lemons and get drinks. 20 min later without checking in he comes back with no lemons, leaves comes back 10 minutes later, says he forgot lemons at a bar again. 20 min later comes with first round of food. (50 min after we got there) dirty plates, and obviously say under a heat lamp for some time. Order food, 30 min later we get our lemons, sauces that we ordered with the first round and 2 things of bread we asked for at the beginning. 3 main dishes were so salty I couldn’t event eat them. Mind you I’ve had them before multiple times and I’ve never had an experience so bad. Told the manager she said she understood but didn’t really try to fix it. Said she’ll remake them. 20 min later I said forget it and cancel all of it we’ll cash out. Don’t feel like management really tried to fix my experience. Took of thr 3 bad dishes Lemon took 3 reminders, and 20 minutes. Steak came over seasoned and burned. Kids food was probably sitting on the red light for 30 minutes before we got. This is the most disappointing food we ever got here and we used to go here all the time. They took off the food off the bill that we got - but that didn’t really fix the experience we had. Well remember this as the last time we’ll visit Perry’s. Should have gone to Deans Italian after all.
Really nice steakhouse in downtown Austin. Multiple cuts of meat to include pork chops, waygu, filets, new york, ribeye. They have fresh seafood. I ordered multiple apps, and the symphony. Everything was really good. 5 stars.
Visiting Perry's on our trip for music concert. We picked the right restaurant. We ordered steaks and sides. Steaks was cooked perfectly as our ordered. Au gratin was so cheesy goodness. We loved it. Great environment, great service. Probably we will not come to Austin again, but for fine dining restaurant it is recommended.
My wife and I recently dined at Perry's for the first time. I had anticipated a high-end dining experience which would include atmosphere, and for the high prices, excellent tasting menu items. I was disappointed on all counts. I started with the Caesar Salad which was so salty I could not eat it. I returned it and was not charged for it. I also had the Stuffed Mushroom appetizer. I removed the stuffing, which tasted fishy, and ate the mushrooms. I also had French Onion Soup and it was fair. I next had the Crab Cakes appetizer. The plate contained two Crab Cakes. The crab cakes were not lump meat but rather a blended stuffing with a crust and deep fried. I ate half of one. For dessert I had the Bread Pudding which came with a four inch square of marshmallow for a topping. My thought is how ridiculous that huge chunk of marshamallow looked sitting on top of the bread pudding. The bread pudding was tasteless and very solid. It was difficult to eat with a spoon or fork. I only had one bite. My wife had the Chopped Salad which was fair. She also had the Lobster Bisque which was fine but not great. My wife also had the Shrimp Cocktail which was five shrimp on ice with a small container of shrimp cocktail sauce. It was ok. We had a nice young lady as our server. She was polite and efficient. In summary we were totally disappointed in this restaurant. The food was sub par on every item my wife and I tried. The prices were expensive. I felt the dining experience was a waste of our time and money. We will never come to this restaurant again as there are better options.
