We went to Sumo for our first wedding anniversary and were let down so much so we wished we were at Shogun in Austin. We had sushi and Teppanyaki and it was not worth the money that was paid. My wife had scallops and I had Wagyu steak. My wife said her plate was OK but my steak was definitely overcooked. I asked for medium and I got well done. The chef was a little overconfident and wasn’t very talented. On the door outside it’s at SA Today’s 2025 best pick for Japanese restaurant, which I think they need a new food reviewer. Also, our sushi was good, but we did not receive a full role just eight pieces. I would not suggest this place for the price. It looked very rundown on the inside. Oh yeah, and the tea tasted like I was on a cruise ship with recycled water.
Great amount of food, extremely nice staff, however the food lacked flavor, so I had to add the sauce from my chicken gyoza. The ginger sauce was too tart for my taste, and I don't like any of the yum yum sauce anywhere from a personal perspective, and I didn't get any soy sauce. I Love Hibachi and never understand why some are flavoring while cooking, and don't require sauce, which is my preference. The dark car photo with the veggies underneath. Looks Amazing right!
Went to celebrate my husbands birthday yesterday! The services was amazing! The chef did an amazing job also! It was our first time and the experience over all was great!
Chef Aaron Professionally cooked our food with amazing confidence and brought comedy to the kitchen. We enjoyed our meal time very much. My daughter told me she would like to celebrate her bday at this location. Chef Aaron get ready for this event in 2026. We will return for service. Mouth watering food, great place, friendly staff. Thank you Sumo Japanese Steakhouse.
Friendly waitress and we had a good chef. The volcano roll was delicious, the chicken fried rice was seasoned and prepared well, veggies were delicious, my chicken was juicy, the Godzilla (alcoholic beverage) was a nice treat, and the portions were fair for our table of four. Honestly not much of a show compared to other hibachi restaurants, definitely wasn't an $83 experience for a single person.
