I’ve brought many items to Tailors on Blake over the years and been incredibly impressed every time. Unfortunately, the fabulous Sharon has now retired and the shop is under new ownership. It shows. The seamstress who pinned my dress spoke very limited English. She did not understand my questions and could not provide answers. She pinned my formal dress hastily and crookedly. A younger associate was called into the fitting room to interpret my questions and when I asked for reassurance regarding the uneven pinning, she answered snarkily “we are tailors and we know what we are doing”. The fee was close to $200 for a hem and shoulder strap adjustment. I ended up declining the service. Too many red flags. I won’t be back.
Giving five stars — not for the service I received, but for the silver lining it unexpectedly revealed. Earlier this week, I called ahead to confirm whether the store could provide a specific alteration-related service — taking measurements for a personal shopper experience, even though they wouldn't be doing the actual tailoring themselves. I was assured, confidently, that this wouldn’t be a problem and was even quoted a price. So, I drove across town today to get it done. When I arrived, however, I was told they would not provide the service after all. The reason? They didn’t want to be held “liable” for taking measurements if the tailoring was being done elsewhere. I was told the previous information was incorrect and they blamed a new employee. The tone was dismissive, and the customer service felt grumpy and cold. And now, here’s where the five stars come in: Because of that experience, I ended up finding a different tailor—someone who had no issue with the request, charged half the price, and treated me like a human being throughout. So thank you, truly, for the disappointing interaction. It pointed me directly to someone far better. Five stars—for unintentionally sending me in the right direction.
I bring all my tailoring to this shop. My last need was snaps on silk robes. Wonderfully done. I've had pants hemmed, and other clothing adjusted. They have wonderful gifts for sale also! With cute monogram options!
We dropped off a backpack to have embroidery work done. I was impressed with the amount of fonts to choose from. The person who helped us was very kind and patient and helped us find just the right font and size even though it was busy. The finished product turned out great, and the price was reasonable.
Had them do a little of everything from the basic to the complex & it all came back looking amazing. There was a number of your typical seam fixes & zipper pull replacements. They also made a really nasty snag completely vanish. I honestly only expected so much (thread was intact, but it was a BAD snag). There's simply no trace of it left. Most notably, they converted a jacket to working cuffs with a contrast button. All work was hand-stitched & it looks/works FANTASTIC (pictured). The buttons have that pleasing little snap when locked in. I really can't say enough about the quality of stitching on those button holes, and the contrast button color suggestion was right on the money. Amazing work happens here.
