The Keg is a steakhouse I visit regularly, and overall I’ve had many positive experiences here. During today’s visit, I ordered a well-done steak, but the first one arrived over-charred, with a carbonized surface and a noticeable burnt smell. While a well-done steak should be fully cooked, it should never taste burned. After I raised this with the waiter, the manager came over promptly and handled the situation very professionally. He personally checked the steak and had it replaced immediately. The manager personally delivered the second steak to my table and checked with me twice to make sure I was satisfied. The replacement steak was cooked correctly, clearly meeting the well-done standard, and tasted very good. In addition, the manager comped the sharz and dessert, which I truly appreciated. The customer service and management response were excellent and showed genuine care for the guest experience. That said, as a steakhouse, the core of the business is steak quality and consistency. I hope the kitchen, especially the chefs, can receive additional training to ensure proper doneness without burning. Overall, strong service and outstanding management — just hoping for more consistent execution from the kitchen going forward.
We came in this week to celebrate my mom’s birthday; it was also my nephew’s (20 months) first time at The Keg, so we were a little nervous. We were lucky enough to have Justin as our waiter, and he was absolutely incredible. Not only did he take great care of everyone at the table, but he was extremely attentive, high-energy, and cheerful throughout the entire evening. He was especially wonderful with my nephew and made sure he was happy and entertained. The food was amazing! The beef carpaccio was incredible, the steaks were cooked perfectly, and we were cozy sitting right by the fire. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We will definitely be requesting Justin every time we come back for future celebrations. We felt extremely comfortable and so well taken care of.
We ordered two medium top sirloins, and unfortunately, one of them was a bit overcooked. But the server was super helpful and replaced it with a fresh, better steak. The manager even checked in and gave us a free dessert and a drink on the house! Overall, the food was fantastic when it was cooked right.
I usually don't try chains, but we thought we'd give The Keg a try during patio season. We started off with the black and blue margaritas, they tasted great. We then had the tuna tartare and escargot. Usually, tuna tartare has some other ingredients added for flavor and texture, like scallions, seasonings, etc. but this one had only sesame seeds on top and unseasoned avocado underneath. The flavor was bland, and the tuna was fishy. The escargot had odd seasonings on it as well, which did not taste very good. For mains, I had the lobster and crab sirloin oscar. It actually tasted good, and the steak was well cooked. Vegetables were steamed and bland. My partner had the lobster roll. There was barely any lobster in the bun, so I would call it more of a lobster "garnish" roll. The baked potato was delicious. Overall, the mains were okay, and I don't recommend the appetizers. The staff were nice.
Absolutely wonderful experience and divine food. I hadn't been to The Keg in many years and I didn't remember it being this good. To be fair, I think when I was younger I always ordered the cheapest thing on the menu 😂. This time we ordered the 18oz Prime Rib, medium rare and it was GORGEOUS. Wow. Also ordered the Blackened Chicken and we split both. The chicken was very good, but the prime rib was the star for sure. The slab was giant, of course. Cooked to perfection. The chicken had the most delicious sweet sauce. We ordered a side of peppercorn sauce for the beef, however the au jus it was served with was fantastic and so tasty. Loved the generous portion of crispy onions that came with the beef. We could eat those all day long and they added bursts of flavour to every bite. Garlic mash and the twice baked potatoes were great and full of flavour. Even the sautéed mushrooms were delightful. We were celebrating hubby's birthday so were given a slab of Billy Miner pie for free. It was far larger than we ever imagined. $12 on the menu but what a generous size. Definitely worth that price and easily feeds two or three (assuming you are full from your meal). Our waitress was so lovely and friendly. All the staff were excellent. We'd return for sure. The food was truly marvelous and mouth watering. One of the better restaurants we've eaten at in Winnipeg.
