Brought some silver eagles in today and immediately got a more-than-fair offer. Was paid in cash on the spot in just a few minutes. Cleve was very friendly and knowledgeable.
I had my ring resized and added a new loop to my pendant at American Jewelers. They did an amazing job, everything looks perfect. You can tell they’ve been doing this for years because their craftsmanship shows. The prices are very reasonable too. I’ll definitely be back.
Brought a 14k Italian gold bracelet to get shortened. Came to pick it up and asked for the gold that was cut off the bracelet. They said "the extra gold was thrown into their melting pot". Gave me a piece of some random gold bracelet (that I don't even know if it's gold) and didn't charge me the $25 for the work. They said they have been doing this for 20+ years, but they still don't know that they should keep the gold that was cut off for the customer. Amateur work done here. Not professional.
I came to American Jewelers based on the great reviews about ring sizing. I brought my wedding ring in to be sized down. The owner was polite & kind. He took my ring, checked the size & told me my ring would be ready the next day. He told me the price & I joked the cost was almost more than I paid for the ring. I explained that my ring was only silver & not valuable but that when we bought our wedding rings, my husband & I always intended to upgrade at some point but because of the sentimental value, we would be keeping these rings forever. I returned the next day & my ring was completely changed. My wedding ring that I dropped off was a flat, 4 mm, band that was glossy & shiny with our wedding date darkly engraved on the inside. (Photos of my ring with my husband's matching band & of my ring with engagement ring attached) The ring he returned to me was slightly rounded & not at all shiny. (Photos attached) The engraved date was barely visible. I was shocked & very sad because it looked so different from my loved ring. The owner said to leave it with him for a couple of hours & he would fix it. I left & when I returned, it looked the same. He then said to give him until the next day to fix it. I returned the next day with my husband & the ring looked exactly as it had when he had returned it to me the previous day. I was devastated & my husband was not happy. The owner said he would order a new ring to replace mine. Obviously, a new ring will not ever be my wedding ring but I could tell he felt bad about the situation & agreed. He said it would be in the next week. The next week came & the ring was not in. I was told it would be in on 11/22 & I could pick it up on 11/23. It was still not there. It finally came in the evening of 11/26. I went to pick it up today & the ring that was ordered looked just like the ring he tried to return to me. It was not shiny & not like my ring - my wedding ring - that I brought in to have sized. The owner's response was that he had ordered it from the factory. That did not change the fact that it did not look like my ring. I understand that this was a mistake & that the owner tried to make it right. The problem is that he didn't. Regardless of the monetary value of my wedding ring, it was incredibly valuable to me. It is no longer the same ring. It looks completely different; the engraving is almost invisible & it does not look good with my engagement ring. I cannot recommend American Jewelers for ring sizing at all. Maybe they can handle a simple small round band but anything more complicated is a risky proposition. I will keep my old ring on a chain around my neck forever but I will now be ordering a new wedding band at my expense to replace the one that has been altered for the worse.
Mr. Cleve is a very nice gentleman. I came in for two watch batteries and he was able to change them both in a few minutes time. I only had my credit card on me and he gave me a pass on the charge and just asked that I just stop in next time. I will absolute return and I thank him for his generosity.
