I have been a student of Arthur Murray Richmond for about 3 years now. I’ve accomplished and grown so much. I’ve made so many new friends through social dancing in the Short Pump/Mechanicsville area. I have been able to attend and enjoy everything from weekend social dances to Black tie dinners from what I have learned from Arthur Murray. It’s a lot of fun! I feel comfortable and accomplished at ballroom dances, swing, and country western. Arthur Murray Richmond instructors, coaches, and resources took my dancing to the next level.
We are both in our 80’s, and we were looking for a fun endeavor to keep our minds and bodies active and mobile. Well, we definitely found it at Richmond Arthur Murray Dance Studio. We couldn’t imagine a more welcoming place to grow some new, beneficial skills and to make new friends. We live in the Tuckahoe area, just 10 minutes from the studio. Our weekly private lessons are taught by young, highly trained teachers who always come prepared for our next stage using a specified syllabus designed for us, based on our level of progress. After just a few months of lessons, we attended Glenn’s sixtieth college reunion where young and old alumni were dancing to live music. We were one of the few couples who danced with confidence. We comfortably did club swing and single swing (with turns). We were often followed on the floor by the videographer because I think we looked like we knew what we were doing, despite our age. A year ago, we would not have had the confidence to try that. Our teachers at Arthur Murray are extraordinary. They make our lessons demanding, but they do so with such encouragement, positive attitudes, and lots of joy. Among the numerous dances we have learned, we particularly like the contrasts between the waltz and the tango. One has a rise-and-fall gliding step; the other is a more pronounced step without the rise and fall. Yet both are very graceful. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we often attend the group sessions where vigorous dances, or even amalgamations are taught in a large group. These are extra sessions that any student may attend. Switching partners is the norm, although we usually dance with just each other. As a final note, at Arthur Murray Richmond, there is always a plan, attention to detail, lots of humor, good will, and joy.
We took dance lessons here leading up to our wedding, and it was one of the best decisions we made. The staff is incredibly kind, patient, and fun — they made every lesson something we looked forward to. We not only learned so much (their knowledge and teaching style are amazing), but it also became one of our favorite date nights during wedding prep. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to feel confident on the dance floor and have a great time doing it!
My husband and I have a great time at our dance classes at Arthur Murray! He bought us classes as my birthday gift in 2024 and we originally used it to dance at our wedding. We liked it so much we kept going back. I’m quite the goofball and the staff are accommodating and fun to learn from! We have learned 6 different dances so far and can rock out a rumba pretty well now. It’s a short drive from our house near willow lawn and a great way to spend quality time together as a couple.
The studio and staff are top notch! I always have such an inspiring time learning from them in such a positive and supportive atmosphere. Location is super convenient as I live in Short Pump. Came in for Salsa, gained tons of other dances and skills in my pocket. Great place to develop social skills! See you on the floor :)
