Bake Sum à Oakland mêle le sucré et le salé, et de nombreux avis louent des pâtisseries d'inspiration japonaise telles que le Okonomiyaki Danish, le lilikoi mochi, le petit pain à la citrouille et les biscuits Matchamisu. C'est une boulangerie locale, chiens acceptés, avec une ambiance café rose, réputée pour son personnel chaleureux et ses ventes qui partent rapidement les jours de forte affluence. Les clients apprécient des échantillons gratuits, un panier de viennoiseries de la veille et des options pas trop sucrées, avec des visites matinales autour de 10 h pour mettre la main sur leurs favoris.

Very cute locally run shop. My favorite is their matchamisu and chocolate banana croissant. They really uphold the best compliment an Asian can give for a dessert of “not too sweet!” It hits all the joys every time I take a bite. The staff is super welcoming and they even give free sample of their traditional croissants to try if you’re waiting! You can tell everyone that works here is genuinely happy and that’s the best you can receive when getting any baked goods, it’s filled with love, joy and warmth like home that reminds me of my childhood.
This place goooooooooood! Ordered the lilikoi mochi and pumpkin bun. The mochi so chewy so how it's supposed to be. The pumpkin bun has a nice balance of flavor. However, I think overall the taste is a little too sweet for me but that's just my preference.
Very cute Japanese influenced bakery. They have nice savory and sweet options but they run out of best sellers early on busy days, recommend going around 10am. Okonomiyaki pastry and oolong milk bun aew delicious. The staff was very friendly! I recommend this bakery.
I have a bad habit of going to BakeSum too late in the day even though I know they always sell out pretty quick! Get there bright and early or pre-order if you're looking to get a good amount of pastries. We went this past Saturday in hopes of our favorite, the Okonomiyaki Danish. It has a buttery layered pastry with a soft boiled egg in the middle-- heaven! But we were too late. Thankfully, they were making a fresh batch of their Black Sesame and Coconut Ube cookies. Of course we had to get a cookie! I also go for the Coconut Ube, it's not too sweet & coconut pairs so well with Ube. The cookie itself is also slightly crispy on the edges and has a lovely chewy middle. We also grabbed a Matchamisu! It was our first time trying it and it won't be our last. The perfect amount of matcha is infused into the cream layers while the coffee soaked layers don't overpower the matcha. And, best of all, it's not too sweet! This past visit was the first time I noticed their day-olds basket. Sadly, it was also empty, but I love businesses that offer this! Rather than toss everything at the end of the day, they package items that are slightly more shelf stable and sell them at a discounted cost. I always enjoy being greeted by the staffs chorus of "welcome in!" & pink cafe aesthetic, it really just sets such a great tone for my day! Next time, I'll be sure to get there early so I can finally get my hands on that danish again! (Also they're dog friendly! They have a jar of dog treats by the window for your furry friends)
This place should be on your bucket list to the Bay Area it’s what you expect when visiting out here. An establishment built with love, trying food you’ve never had before and never will, because of its uniqueness. Come here, bring your friends and have some delicious foods. I’m a big fan of anything sweet they have, but there’s such a variety of flavors just ask any of the awesome staff.
