Very pleased with the service. Nice quality furniture and sales service. Delivered with care and professionalism. Looking at some negative comments I would say it’s also down to the customer to check sizing of door frames and entrance sizes before ordering a sofa.
We were regular Barker and Stonehouse customers over the past 6 years, we have purchased multiple items of furniture to amounts totalling tens of thousands. We regularly visited the Leeds and Knaresborough store. We ordered a sofa and a side table to be delivered from the Leeds store which arrived this week. The delivery men attempted to deliver the sofa but could not as they said the sofa was too big and they would need to take the sofa back and cut the arms off it and re-upholster it back together!?!!! After speaking to customer service they said that the sofa would be returned in January and I have no rights to cancel the order as it was a store order (I'm sure that contradicts my consumer rights). Leaving us to spend Christmas sat on the floor of our living room. Not only that but there is now a hole in the ceiling of my hallway where the delivery men have tried to force the sofa into the living room. This is now up to me to put right and source my own trades to rectify. I visited the Leeds store to sort the re delivery of my sofa, the assistant store manager said that this was our fault as we were asked about 'access' issues before delivery. Yes, we were asked if there were any stairs or issues leading up to the property which there is not. Regardless, the store had an independent delivery man bring the sofa back with the arms bolted off (not sawn off, like the barker and stonehouse delivery men said). It took this man, on his own, less than 20 minutes to deliver my sofa correctly. Overall, so far the hole in my ceiling is still there and no contribution made from B&S yet. This customer service is appalling. We are loyal customers and B&S is our go to place for furniture but unfortunately this wont be the case going forward. Once they have your money, the simply do not care.
We had an extremely unpleasant experience with Furdeco during the delivery of a sofa purchased through Barker and Stonehouse. The delivery was handled by Furdeco, and from start to finish it was completely unacceptable. I hold both companies responsible, especially as Barker and Stonehouse seem to use the cheapest and lowest quality delivery company. The delivery men shouted aggressively at my wife, who was alone in the house at the time, and refused to listen when we tried to explain how to get the sofa into the living room. Their behaviour was intimidating and unprofessional — no one should have to deal with that in their own home. They also left rubbish behind and pressured my wife into signing the delivery note without giving her a chance to inspect the sofa. I raised the issue with Tara at Furdeco and their complaints team, who initially apologised and promised compensation (£88 refund and flowers). However, despite several follow-up emails (on 15th April and 22nd August 2025), they have stopped responding completely, and to this day no compensation has been received. It’s clear that once they had apologised in writing, they had no interest in actually resolving the issue or standing by their word. Both Furdeco and Barker and Stonehouse should take responsibility for how customers are treated by their delivery teams. I strongly recommend avoiding any company that uses Furdeco for deliveries — the experience was distressing, unprofessional, and unresolved months later. Edit - Barker and Stonehouse saw this review and paid the amount promised on behalf of Furdeco. Still no response from Furdeco. Upgraded from 1 to 3 star.
Nice staff - saying hello and introducing yourself goes a long way. Order taking, delivery (and assembly if required) is swift and professional. Ask about price matching and and do your research and all parties will come away happy.
