I’ve had the opportunity to visit martial arts schools across the country, and I can genuinely say that BETA Academy is among the very best. The level of instruction, the care given to each student, and the overall training environment are truly exceptional. Whether your goal is to learn authentic Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or challenge yourself to become stronger—physically and mentally—this is a place where real growth happens. Training here isn’t just about fitness or technique; it’s an investment in yourself, and one that can be genuinely life-changing.
I am just wrapping up my first year at this gym and have had an incredibly positive experience. Classmates and teammates were excellent and friendly. People are good at being welcoming and helping you understand and learn. The coaches are absolutely phenomenal and always seem happy to answer follow up questions or help me understand techniques better. The staff have been welcoming and helpful at solving problems. I had to take a month off after an injury and I was able to get a credit for a future month (I learned you can also freeze for a month but I didnt know that at the time). It felt good to have any billing/membership questions answered clearly and that I felt heard with my concerns. I look forward to continuing to train here in the new year (sadly after a little bit of time off).
I attended a Kudo (Japanese martial art) seminar hosted at BETA Academy, and the experience was excellent. The facility is top-notch. The place has spacious mats, a cage setup, and a ring setup, along with clean locker rooms and a shower. Everything felt professional and well maintained. The owner, Nakapan, is incredibly skilled yet very humble and kind. You can tell he genuinely cares about the art, the athletes, and the community. Even though I was there specifically for Kudo, it was clear that BETA Academy is a high quality MMA gym with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend checking this place out, whether for seminars or regular training.
Training at Beta Academy has been an incredible experience. The instructors are not only skilled and knowledgeable, but also genuinely invested in helping each student improve. The atmosphere is respectful, disciplined, and motivating — a perfect balance for growth. Whether you’re new to martial arts or have years of experience, you’ll find a strong sense of community and top-notch instruction here. I’ve seen real progress in both my technique and mindset. Highly recommend to anyone serious about their martial arts journey.
Can't say enough about this place, the people who run it, and the people who train here. This impression was made in one night. My son and I were visiting the DC area and when we travel, we always look for a place to "drop in" and cross train. I always call ahead to "feel out" the place and the people running it. I want to know ahead of time if it will work out for both parties. I've had a few along the way that won't let newcomers or drop ins, but most in the jiujitsu community will. BETA did with open arms. The young man on the phone was so informative and helpful. My son is 12 and has been training in martial arts for 7 years. He went to the 12-16yr old class. There were two other teens that were drop ins as well. All three were on route to a big tourney that weekend. I observed the interactions between the instructors and students, the parents with the instructors, the students with each other, especially the incoming adults with the kids and teens training. This is definitely a family. So much respect, no egos anywhere. I had a very nice conversation with one of the Dads. We are all doing this for the same reason. Kids walk tall, and humbly here. My son was allowed to train with the advanced adult team in the later class. Coach Nakapan was a pro. He, as well as every adult there showed patience and respect to my son. That was such a huge moment for him! He did take Gold this weekend. I've been in many gyms, this one is top notch. Would highly recommend doing a trial. You will benefit in so many ways!!!
