This vinyard was recommended to me by winery in Leesburg VA. We were discussing Maryland wine and I was told that this winery was exceptional and an example a far Maryland wine has progressed. Upon arrival, the staff asked if this was my first time visiting the winery. Shortly after, a manager named Megan came over the greet us and brought us a complimentary glass of champagne. I went to the outside tasting location where Bryan gave a chemistry class by going over some of the processes associated with wine making and drinking. The other guest were cool and my family had a great time. It seemed as if there was a deliberate effort to make sure we had a great time. What really made me feel good was the way my family was treated. English is not their first language. The other kids played with them and made them feel welcome. Now let's get to the wine. Most of the wines I tasted were exceptional and easily the best I've ever tasted from a Maryland vinyard. When people talk about how good Maryland wine has gotten. They're talking about vinyards like Black Ankle that are putting Maryland on the map. It was a great experience and my family loved it. The property is is very nice and scenic. There are multiple seating areas depending on what kind of vibe you want. There were also and I counted, 17 EV charging stations..17. The was food available for purchase. When we went, there were a lot people but it didn't feel crowded. If you like great wine, you have go to Black Ankle. It's definitely worth the drive. I was told there are plans to open a sister winery around Clarksburg in the future. I can't wait!!!!!! Cheers

A few times have been here. Very nice atmosphere. I really appreciate the option of bringing our own food to complement the wine offerings.

The only thing I liked about this winery was the view. It came off as pretentious, some of the staff were nice some were not. It was pricey but they only really had dry wines not my first choice. Probably wouldn’t go back, very well kept but not my vibe.

TL:DR - Beautiful property and good wine, but an awful first impression and terrible service from one staff member. We recently flew across the country to visit family in the area. This was the final stop on a Saturday evening after touring other local wineries, breweries, and restaurants. The grounds were immaculate and the vibe was energetic when we arrived. The place was busy but there was plenty of space for our small group and we were seated in a timely manner. Unfortunately, our first impression of service was terrible. It was especially jarring after having visited many other establishments prior where were made to feel welcome and appreciated. The hostess informed us we could order wine at an outside bar or inside. We opted to go inside to order. In hindsight, the whole negative experience could have been avoided had we simply chosen to order outside. At the indoor bar, there was one gentleman helping another couple, so we positioned ourselves at an open portion of the bar to wait patiently. We were never acknowledged by the man behind the bar, not even to say he'd be right with us. Nothing. After waiting for quite some time and beginning to feel impatient, the staff member behind the bar finally addressed us and was visibly annoyed when we explained we just wanted to order wine and not do a full tasting. He made a few passive and frankly, rude, comments about signage and hastily began trying to flag down other employees to help us. He then immediately went back to being friendly to other guests, creating an unwelcoming experience for us as first-time visitors who happened to look nothing like the other customers at the bar. I won't name him here but he is featured on the winery's website. Thankfully, Niki stepped in and did her best to turn the experience around. She was kind, apologetic, and ultimately went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We truly appreciated her efforts, as well as the hospitality from the other staff we encountered later on. All in all, we enjoyed the wine and the rest of our visit, but that rocky start left a bad impression. I hope this feedback is helpful. Especially for welcoming new guests who are excited to patronize a local business.

The vineyard was absolutely beautiful! The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the music created such a great vibe. We really enjoyed the scenic views and the cozy, relaxed atmosphere. A perfect spot for a laid-back afternoon — we’ll definitely be back!
