Visited before 8am and received a warm welcome and great service. Cardamom and oat latte was fantastic and happy he mixed the syrup through the coffee as it’s horrible when it collects in the bottom. Açai bowl was a fantastic breakfast. Will definitely be back! 10 stars!! Thanks so much!
You see it everywhere.... And you hear all about the Black sheep... It seems pretty hip; you're intrigued. You finally wander into one.... And the 30 mins it takes to figure out how to use the stupid screen ordering system, cancel the 50 requests for "would you like a large?" And "would you like to add a pastry to that order?" And then finally wait for your order, quickly reminds you of why you shouldn't fall for marketing schemes like this, and why the western world is doomed. It wanted me to create an account.... An account! 😐 To buy a coffee.......! Look. The venues are fine, and the coffee is decent; the same as you'd expect in Costa or Starbucks, and the price is what you'd expect of such a venue too. Not cheap. But not silly. I (foolishly) bought a panini - I won't lie, it was just really hot bread that had once been read a story about fillings, and flavour, since it clearly didn't have anything substantial in it that I could taste, but it was edible. It's been a few hours, and I'm still standing, so it probably wasn't poisoned. It's not a terrible place, just don't, for even a second, fall for the schtick of "leave the herd behind". This is well and truly, Gen Z, don't talk to anyone, over pay for the privilege, generic trash. Oh, and I couldn't use the bathroom because there's a code lock, and despite calling out three times, the staff there wouldn't answer me. (So no speaking to order, the orders show when they're ready on a screen, and they won't speak to you to let you use the bathroom..... I should have just had my headphones in to complete the experience). The coffee was alright. 2 stars. 😂
Great coffee and food! Even the decaf is decent and that never happens haha Super friendly staff! Seatings a bit limited but nice if you time it right.
I’m a tourist in Edinburgh and I found this great little coffee shop right next door to that more famous mermaid shop. Full of lots of young locals it suit me perfectly after the morning rush. I stopped for a late breakfast 3 times. The last day not only gave me a tasty breakfast but a sense of restored humanity. This is a kind of hip modern vibe the majority of folk order on one of several tablets and wait for their name to be called. The staff will help the lost tourist and let them order at the counter when there is time. This morning an older ( older than me so that means ancient) local couple came in. The one with mobility issues sat immediately while the more mobile one assisted. She then ordered at the counter and the barista. Gave them full table service carrying the food and drinks right to them. This is a busy place and not really set up to allow for that kind of service but they did it anyway and I was truly touched to see that kindness and care exist in a busy world. So come get your coffee or tea or toasties and enjoy the good vibes available here.
Great coffee, great people! I had a small issue using the self-service machines, but the staff were incredibly friendly and quick to help—sorted my drink with no fuss. The coffee tasted superb, and with a fantastic view over Edinburgh, what more could you ask for? Will definitely be back!
