Such a wonderful boulangerie! Located in the heart of Le Plateau, they truly have everything you could want: beautifully crafted artisanal breads, delicious pastries (including croissants reminiscent of top Paris boulangeries), cakes, and plenty of savory options like quiches and sandwiches. The coffee is excellent, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is both cozy and bright. I love the furniture and how the large windows fill the space with light no matter where you sit. Just keep in mind that it can get quite busy, and finding a seat might be tricky, even on a Monday afternoon.
My cookie prayers have been answered!! Due to my food sensitivity to eggs and dairy, it's extremely difficult to find cookies that I can safely enjoy. TOLEDO's vegan chocolate cookies have answered my prayers!! Not only are they dairy free and egg free, they ACTUALLY taste good. Chewy and chocolatey, just like a good cookie should be!! Sadly, I only discovered them towards the end of my stay in Montreal. I brought 4 back to Vancouver with me...should have bought more!!! TOLEDO, any plans to open a bakery in Vancouver??
Le Toledo is a popular bakery on Mont-Royal Avenue, a lively pedestrian street lined with cafés, bakeries, and restaurants. Several locals we met recommended it, and it’s easy to see why. The bakery is quite large, with plenty of tables and seating inside, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your treats on site. When we visited mid-afternoon, there was a short line, but it moved quickly thanks to the efficient team of staff behind the counter. Everyone was friendly, spoke both French and English, and happily explained the pastries and their ingredients. Prices are very reasonable: cookies start around $3 CAD, croissants at $2.50 CAD, and pastries like brioche and cinnamon rolls are also available. I ordered a chocolatine (pain au chocolat) for $3.25 CAD and a caramel cream cruffin for $5 CAD. Both were excellent—crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, and full of flavor. If you’re strolling Mont-Royal Avenue, Le Toledo is absolutely worth a stop. Grab a couple pastries to enjoy on the spot or take away—you really can’t go wrong here.
This is a very good boulangerie located along Mont-Royal Ave East that is open from 7am to 6pm daily. They have a fair sized indoor seating area, many visitors seem to pop in for morning take-away. There was a short queue when we arrived 7.30am midweek. You'll find a nice range of mostly French style breads, tarts, pastries and bakery products. We particularly liked their quiche and almond filled croissants. Coffees served up on the day were very good as well. This seemed like a great boulangerie, one we'd like visit regularly if we lived in the area. Would gladly revisit next time in Montreal.
From the friendly staff to the vast array of baked goods, you can’t beat this place. Their artisan bread selection is great. They have various sandwiches in savory items, and every type of coffee you want. But the best part to me were the flaky French pastries, and various cookies they make. In my travels, I visit every French bakery up, possibly can. This place ranks way up at the top level. Add to that, the staff is quite friendly and accommodating with no attitude at all.
