I have visited Bronzeville Winery a number of times. This time, I had an early birthday celebration at Bronzeville Winery. The service was very good and the ambiance was unmatched. The food, however is inconsistent. When the restaurant owners are there, the food is amazing, but as soon as they leave or the evening grows later, the food quality dips. It is disappointing because I love this restaurant and their investment in the community. I had the salmon tagliatelle, which was delicious and had a beautiful presentation. The truffle fries were cooked perfectly. The cava was delightfully palatable. The peach cobbler was very forgettable. Lastly, I really enjoyed and appreciated my server, Corrine Z. She was thoughtful and I was in awe as she handled multiple tables with ease. Overall, I am happy I celebrated my birthday there and look forward to next time.
I’d heard good things about this place, so I decided to give it a try. The ambience was nice, though the music was a bit too loud, we had to raise our voices to talk. We ordered shrimp and crispy Brussels sprouts for appetizers, which took at least 30 minutes to arrive. For the entrée, we had the Creole Salmon Tagliatelle and the Lamb Shank, which came about 20 minutes after the appetizers. The food and wine were excellent, but the wait time was excessive, especially since the restaurant wasn’t busy. The menu was also limited, they didn’t have the Signature Burger or Little Chicken Biscuits. Our waitress was great and handled everything well, but the long wait made the experience less enjoyable. They really need a better system. Also, automatically adding a 20% gratuity isn’t a good look.
First, the food was fantastic! The wine pairings were perfect. They were out of lamb chops, but offered an upgrade to a lamb shank for the same price. The salmon tagliatelle was perfect in its execution. Brussels sprouts were amazing in their honey, spicy sauce. Second, we (2 people) were seated at 7:40 and didn't see a server until after 8 to take our order. They arrived with a complimentary sparkling wine glass. Main dishes arrived at 9 (they close at 9). It's 9:48 and still waiting to receive the check. Requested to-go boxes as the hint that we were planning to leave soon almost 30 mins ago...have not seen the server for apologies or questions for dessert or some form of communication. I'm writing this review as I wait. Lastly, live DJ spinning great dinner music, but way too loud to enjoy your company's conversation. Don't know what happened tonight, but for a $200 headache, I WILL NOT return with service like this.
We had a great time at Bronzeville Winery! We tried a mix of dishes—the shrimp and stone-ground grits were rich and flavorful, the herb-crusted rack of lamb was tender and well-seasoned, and the little chicken and biscuit was such a fun comfort bite. The appetizers were a nice start and the wine we ordered paired really well with everything. The vibe was stylish and relaxed, and service was friendly, though the pacing was a little slow at times. Overall, delicious food and good wine in a beautiful space.
I stopped by Bronzeville Winery for Sunday brunch during a business trip to Chicago and was really looking forward to the experience. I love that it is both Black owned and women owned, which makes it such a gem in the city. The space is beautiful, with thoughtful decor and a warm, stylish atmosphere. I ordered the chicken and waffles and they were absolutely delicious. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The coffee was also surprisingly good. Whatever was in the milk it came with made it completely addictive. I’m still thinking about it. I would have given this place 5 stars, but the service brought the experience down. Our server wasn’t very attentive and had to be waved down every time we needed something. He also forgot a few items we asked for. I’ll chalk it up to him having an off day, but it definitely impacted the visit. Still, I’d come back. The food and vibe are worth another shot.
