We had out work Christmas get together at Canberra Bowling Club. 28 people having a go at bare foot bowls was an experience, bar staff were excellent too
DO NOT BOOK an event here! Work Xmas party for 45 people. We only dealt with Sophie and her customer service is beyond horrible. Or first experience was arriving early to set up and actually being yelled at by her to get off the premises, we not allowed to be there before or booked time. When I finally was allowed in she had it paperwork where where very firmly pointed out the line where it said please do not arrive before your time. Not an issue but absolutely not acceptable for her to tell at us, including the person that was about to put $3000 over their bar. She was extremely rude to my guests and staff. We were not made to feel welcome at all. She constantly told me how busy she was and how she didn't have time for us because she had to set up for over 100 people with other events booked that day. It was an extremely hot day and we had to ask if we could have a marquee as our table were on concrete in full sun. This was done but the request obviously made her more cranky. The caterer we used, who had been to the venue many times, came to tell me that they had witnessed sophie being extremely rude to my guests when telling them they could not sit at tables inside due to eat their meals as they were for other events. Even the booking process was awful. Very unorganized, could never contact her as she was busy looking after other events. In an email she even said..as I have said before! She explaining the rules of the bowling Green and was very stern when saying I will not hesitate shutting your event down if you break any rule. There was nothing about her that was nice, friendly, professional, caring about our experience, or polite! If they were understaffed, not our problem. There is no excuse to treat people in such an unfriendly unwelcoming way, be rude, sour faced the entire time, yell at and berate my guests. Absolutely disgusting level of customer service. If I could score lower than 1 star I would.
We had our Christmas party for work here, the staff were friendly and very helpful. You will need to organise your own catering. The bowling green was well kept and some members were on hand to provide some pointers on lawn bowls. An excellent experience and a nice little club, would recommend.
