Be cautious—this accountant charged absurd fees and recorded my SMSF hardship withdrawal as a loan against my wishes. Support was minimal, and they strictly pushed their approach rather than considering my situation. Parts of the work were offshored to overseas staff without my consent or prior disclosure.
We started our business in 2019 with little knowledge of how to run a company, our expertise was in our technical work, not in business operations. Capital Q guided us through the process of setting up family trusts and structuring the company correctly, including the constitution, shares, and overall framework. They also helped us implement Xero, teaching us how to manage the day-to-day accounting tasks while supporting us with the bigger tax and compliance requirements. I would highly recommend Capital Q to businesses of any size, whether you are just starting out or are an experienced operator. Their team has an excellent understanding of Australia’s ever-changing tax landscape, ensuring compliance while also helping you avoid paying more tax than necessary. I'm unfortunately going to join the other low star reviews here who I appear to share similar experiences with. I've concluded my business with CapitalQ and feel it's important to share my experience to help others make informed decisions. My primary concerns were the significant lack of integrity in communications and the lack of support and professionalism after the initial onboarding/project was complete. During our engagement, I encountered numerous issues: Communication Breakdowns: Communication was often sporadic and unclear. Crucially, these breakdowns seemed to occur around the times when deliverables were due, leading me to feel that this was a tactic to avoid accountability. Billing Surprises: After months of work, I received a substantial bill, which I was told was heavily discounted. However, the additional charges beyond our initial agreement were never discussed with me, resulting in an unexpected and unpleasant surprise. Difficulty in Follow-ups: Even after paying the bill, getting any response for further support was challenging. I was advised to send text messages to follow up on my emails, which often went unanswered. Only after persistent and strenuous efforts did I receive some attention. All I wanted was some ongoing support for my business finances which I was happy to pay for but I wasn't told either they didn't do that or a firm price for that service so we ended up in some weird limbo. Contrast with New Service: Since moving to a new accountant, I've experienced timely and supportive service, which starkly contrasts with my experience at CapitalQ. While they might be suitable for businesses needing a 'set and forget' approach, I cannot recommend them for those who seek proactive support and partnership in business growth. The lack of responsive and clear communication and transparency in billing were major drawbacks for me. I'm sure this review will receive a big list of justifications and shifting of the blame which will re-enforce my concerns. In professional situations I expect at a minimum for my service provider to put forward collaborative solutions, not immature blame games and justifications.
Great team at CapitalQ.. Am particular impressed with Tracey Richards and her vast knowledge of Capital Gains Tax legislation. She has always been professional, diligent, and has helped me get a positive outcome, with a smile. Tracey since I first met with her has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to listen to what I need and has explained things effectively every step of the way. Thank you, Tracey, for helping me further understand my taxation requirements and putting me at ease. My time at the office was above my expectations, and all the staff were adhering to the covid restrictions. I cannot recommend Tracey and the CapitalQ team highly enough. Look forward to continuing working with Tracey now and into the future.
